Summary: brutality at its best.

1 of 7 thought this review was well written

Emmure, yes, they are on victory records, probably one of the most well known "sell out" labels around, and yes they play brutal metalcore/deathcore, filled with screams, very little clean vocals, heavily distorted guitars and breakdowns gallore, but what makes them different then every other metalcore band around?...the sheer brutality of this record! It is definetly the most brutal release of the 21st century, if not all time.

from start to finish this album is relentless deathcore/metalcore, the song writing is definely very strong, although i think they need to lay off of the open downtuned E string sometimes, but that just adds to the heaviness of the album, and that is of course what they were going for witht his album, right?

well maybe not, because there are more melodic and softer songs on this album, such as the standout track rusted over wet dreams, but that quickly turns into one of the heaviest songs on the album, with one of the most brutal breakdowns and some of the most emotional lyrics on the album when the vocalist utters the crys "but theres one regret we can share, what shall we name him, what shall we name our dead son!"...

and that pretty much sums up the lyrics on the album as well, very strong, heartfelt almost emo type lyrics, some of them are almost humerous, such as the lyrics in the albums single "10 signs you should leave" when the vocalist screams "and its sad to say that i still cry, to my bayside cd, tracks 8 and 9 are about you"

another great thing about this album, is that there arent very many clean vocal parts, which just adds to the heaviness, when there are clean vocals, they arent so much sang as they are yelled, or spoken.

the recordings on this album are great, the producer did a great job, all though the bass is barely audible, but every album is like that these days, the vocals are perfect and the guitars are head and shoulders above most other deathcore bands.

this is deifnely an album that you would want to purchase if you just want to listen to something incredibly heavy, and want to just let go!

It is a very biased-sounding review, but I really like Emmure. So...I'll give you a metaphorical pat on the back.

Of this genre, Id say As Blood Runs Black is better. This guys clean vocals rub me the wrong way.

This definately doesnt deserve a 4 (I'd reserve that for far better and arguably heavier bands in the "brutaler than thou" genre such as Embrace the End, All Shall Perish, A Black Rose Burial, etc), but it deserves 3 (at most) solely on its great production and over-the-top vocals/breakdowns. It's all painfully basic stuff, but enjoyable nonetheless. This Message Edited On 11.05.07

A metalcore album isn't gonna be the most brutal album of all time. Not even of 21st century. Not even of this month,

This band is a stripped down Acacia Strain...

The vocals are quite good though.

this band has so much more than acacia strain brings to the table. Acacia is about as stripped down as you can get...and by stripped down I mean never leaving the boundries of the first three strings by the first five frets.
