Review Summary: No classic, but a riveting debut.
I’ve been very busy producing my own music, it helps me to feel more useful. It also keeps me less bored. I’m scatterbrained, and it’s difficult to pay attention throughout the length of an album. Powerlords is made for us ADHD folk, who crave something new around every corner. It’s a basic power metal album, with double bass pedal work, and loads of harmonies. It’s all so entertaining though.
With the two vocalists giving beautiful harmonizations quite often, Visions of Atlantis comes to mind. While less symphonic, and with a host of dinky keyboards, this is a surprisingly memorable album. They sound incredibly seasoned, despite it being their debut album. Every moment is more impactful than the last, with blazing guitar solos, hard riffs, equally hard drums, and choruses to melt into.
On the nitpicking side, the bass is basically inaudible. Combined with an extremely clean guitar tone, the band’s efforts don’t produce a faster heart beat. These melodies wash over ears and take away stress. The production is excellent for the sparkly melodies, but a hefty guitar is diminished. Such is the fate of modern bands. While I miss the past, I appreciate the excellent production, which ensures a smooth listening experience.
All in all, this is a very impressive debut album. Both vocalists know exactly what they’re doing, though the main singer makes the album what it is. Melodies are effortlessly achieved, with a beautifully clean vocal style that is just as powerful. Whatever homework this band did, it paid off. This, at the very least, is a great time waster until I find another excellent power metal album. It may not compete with big name bands, but it’s worth a listen.
