Review Summary: Drugs: the album.

For a limited time, Dropping A Popped Locket was the new face of crunkcore. With direct ties and brotherhood to Dot Dot Curve, this musician made a silly video with a colourful outfit, and it was enough to indicate (to a smaller me and many others) that the old school MySpace genre was not as dead as advertised. However, the world wasn’t ready for a crunkcore revival yet, and thus, here remains another half-remembered, mostly forgotten artist of the wild genre.

A quick, and important note: this is no longer a crunkcore artist. They have betrayed their former genre, and shall hence forth be known as the crunkcore exile. For the past year, Dropping A Popped Locket released some oddball songs on their YouTube, showing a new direction. This direction was not melodious, catchy, or appealing. Well here we go with a full new album in which the nosedive into obscurity is complete. Obscure I say, because this new album is full of oddities, experimental music, contradicting genres, and blaring singing.

The album launches off with creepy tribal music only to switch to pop rock. The next track involves terribly recorded metalcore. After that we’re treated to eclectic ambient music. Tracks are completely disconnected, with the theme being no theme. Even the idea of an experimental album provides no comfort amongst ear shredding singing as though his voice was a pitchfork dipped in bleach.

The final verdict? I didn’t care for this album, but there’s certainly enough variety to show an artist that cares about their music. It’s like receiving a cheap box of chocolates for Christmas, where some may be a bit tasty, and some are spit-out-the-mouth instantly variety. I can’t say it’s a terrible album because I’m very positive, but hoooo boy. I’m fairly certain no one wanted this type of music from this artist, and where they go next is anyone’s guess.

So not the vocalist? All I needed to know.

Was willing to let her pop and lock in my ear, but oh well.
