Review Summary: Gross Breakcore Imagery
I enjoy breakcore for its calculated violence. Sometimes when I listen deep into breakcore artists such as Xanopticon and PSYBOU-KANOJO, I feel that I am listening to the site of motorway collisions orchestrated by aliens. It is powerful to have a human touch in the midst of all that. The subgenre of lolicore is uncomfortable for the way it provides this. Slippymudman (aka DJ Slippycumgirl) is an extremely upbeat lolicore artist, and his debut album
Gross Breakcore Imagery is a classic lolicore mix of extreme breakbeat, stomping happy hardcore, anime slave voices and cute guitars and keyboards that you can hear for a few half-seconds where the percussion shuts up. One of the things I find exciting about this album is that the songs fly by so quickly that you lose track of which is which. This works well because the 15-minute runtime allows you to feel all feelings very quickly, without any of them getting boring. Whether or not this is appropriate for an album called
Gross Breakcore Imagery and about gross breakcore imagery is another matter. The Bandcamp descriptions reads ‘The album might as well be titled “Gross Lolicore Imagery” as it consists of non-stop lolicore bangers”. I agree with this judgment. You can download this album for free. Should you?
