Few mainstream rock acts have had the lasting impact of the unstoppable Shinedown. Somehow avoiding falling into the trappings of mediocrity that groups like Nickelback and Seether succumbed to, Shinedown have been flying the flag for radio rock for twenty years. Unstoppable bop after unstoppable bop has been dropped on us like a scorching hot potato, and now these boys are tossing us another one.
Many common complaints you'll see from the internet music hipsters regard the supposed stagnancy of mainstream radio rock. Well, this reviewer says not to reinvent the wheel if said wheel is an unstoppable force. What one may call stagnancy is merely another man's consistency. A steak is a fine meal on its own, there is no need to add cheese or something like that. Maybe that'd be okay, but it's not necessary, just like it's not necessary for Shinedown to change sounds.
It's no coincidence that Shinedown is named Shinedown. The name was not picked out of a hat or something silly. The shine represents the positivity and uplifting vibes that the band unstoppably lays down time and time again. The down part is simple: listening to this band, you are gonna get down! It's hard not to dance to the grooves here, the music is quite groovy yet mainstream rock is not often known for its grooves but the grooves can be found here. Doesn't matter if it's the first track or the fifth track or whatever, it all lays down unstoppable beats that stick in your head like how bears like honey, it's simply that sticky.
Check out some Shinedown.
