Review Summary: Ito Project is a one person screamo project from an interneter that goes by Dia Ito. They also make atmospheric post hardcore with jpop vocals and its really good.
This will be brief as succinctity is the key to being underwhelming, which I have fully embraced. It's wild this has been out for five years and there's been no mention on Spuitnuk, highly disappointing to say the least, as it's in my opinion one of the best screamo albums of the past decade.
In classic Japanese screamo fashion, Ito Project relies heavily on the tension of quiet interludes transitioned to screaming walls of atmosphere. However, they stand out from being a full on clone of the classics like Envy, Nitro Mega Prayer, and Heaven In Her Arms by not bordering on being a post-rock band, instead experimenting far deeper with dissonance and giving their screamo portions an uptempo dbeat feel with shrieking vocals a-la Ekkaia, but with a more traditionally Japanese soundscape.
To be truly reductionist in a recommendation, think uptempo Heaven In Her Arms-styled screamo with nasally Japanese clean singing interspersed. I'm going to be level with you, Kings, Queens, Chiefs, NB royalty, the clean singing is a bit much to handle at first as it is very much in the school of Japanese people appreciating nasal range far more than people who listen to music focused on European standards... but it's the emo version. It's honestly the aspect that keeps me from giving this EP a hard 5 rating, because musically it is a masterpiece, and the screaming is gd tight. So maybe go into this knowing that it's a gem but it could be an acquired taste. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
