U2 is not only a band that I have admired since I was a tot but they are one of the most melodic, talented and gifted people I've heard. This album,
All That You Can't Leave Behind, came out 3 years after their last album
Pop. Three years out of the mix and they still end up with a incredible album.
This album is very similar to 1991's
Achtung Baby. Whether it is the vocals or the instrumentals.
As the first song,
Beautiful Day kicked in I was immediately turned on. The peaceful verse into the heavy chorus makes this unique yet still very similar to all of their other work. As that song came to a conclusion the next track
Stuck in a Moment You Can't Get Out Of is very lovely. I knew that this album was a hit. As that subsided the heaviest track on the album came on.
Elevation is a reason to get this album. The vocals, the lyrics and the music are just 100% perfect. This song assured me that this album was a masterpiece already.
Stunned by the first three tracks I kept on going and then the very
Achtung Baby like song
Walk On came on it gave me a rest from the first amazing tracks because of the less heavy more melodic and mellow feel to it. This is too a great trait to the album but I would prefer
Elevation and
Beautiful Day.
Kite would seem like a soft song until the juicy chorus comes in. Edge and Larry are really great in this track but the bass is really turned down. This is a great fusion between the heavy sound and the mellow sound.
In a Little While the most peaceful song on the album so far. It has seemed like I like the heavy stuff so far but this song changed my mind. The chorus is amazing and the instrumentals are right there.
After that series of somewhat mellower music
Wild Honey changes it with its up beat feel. It mixture of rock and pop are just right and this song really shows U2's style and what you could expect from them.
Peace On Earth is the most peaceful song on the album (just look at the title). This song is like no other on the album. The song flows exceptionally well.
When I Look at the World is the next song and it is anything but jumbled. The vocals are mesmerizing and the drums are heavy while the guitar carries them through. The bass is turned down way low and it"s a shame because if you hear it then it is very good.
New York is very deep and it would go very good with the beginning of the album. The verses are nice and graceful and the chorus is there is no way to describe it. This song would fit great with their great album
War and the famous tracks
Sunday Bloody Sunday and
New Years Day. The next and final song
Grace is a serene, calm tune to end out the fantastic album.
Pros:
Bono's fantasizing voice.
The song writing
It's U2
Cons:
Some songs have a very low bassline
4.99/5
The beauty of this album is beyond description, the consistency is spellbinding and their gift of fabulous music is one of the finest gifts you could ever receive.
