Review Summary: Engaging songwriting brings forth a strong debut from newcomers Falseta
Falseta are among the latest to play somewhat accessible progressive rock with a modern metal edge. Showing more positivity with their band ethos than others, their musical styles range from heady ambient guitarscapes to Periphery-esque delvings into progressive metal with infections hooks. They are quoted as describing themselves as "the kind of music that metal dudes listen to with their girlfriends." Now this statement can be interpreted in a number of different ways. The metal sections can be crushing a la the intros of “Sweet Blasphemy” and “Ped Xing” while the accessible aspects make up much of the catchy, powerful choruses, especially in the opening tracks. Beautifully melodic verses build to these climactic moments, making up much of the album’s more subtly rewarding moments.
The quieter sections of forward momentum serve to provide many of the most impressive moments of the guitars. Quick, layered harmonies against an ambient backdrop juxtapose the expected powerful choruses. The varied percussion provides for some nice surprises, even delving into funk stylings in album highlight “Chameleon to One.” They drive everything forward to the eventual explosion of a chorus, keeping things from drifting too much. Overall this formula is one that Falseta use throughout
Thought Process, and excel at, despite perhaps relying on it a bit too much.
This short, sweet taste of what Falseta are all about is one that metalheads and girlfriends alike will most likely enjoy for different reasons, as the sheer variety presented here will surely appeal to a wide range of music enthusiasts. Their comment is one that could raise some eyebrows when taken out of context, but what Falseta bring forth in
Thought Process is a very promising start. The band’s positivity shows a true understanding of infectious, forward thinking compositions while maintaining a truly engaging sense of fun and memorability throughout.
