Prior to Van Halen II, Van Halen had realeased their explosive debut album one year earlier, with such hits as Ain't talkin' 'Bout Love, Jamie's cryin' and the song that changed guitar playing forever, Eruption. After the massive amount of success, Van Halen quickly got to work on their next album and it doesn't dissapoint, following much of the same format as the previous album.
Michael Anthony. Bass.-Usually Mikey doesn't get much lead bass. When you play for someone like Eddie Van Halen and David Lee Roth you're not gonna a lot of lead parts. However, on the cover of Clint Ballad Jr.'s You're No Good, Mike opens it up by sliding and bending the strings until his fingers are calloused and bloody. Something any bass player (such as myself) will enjoy. Mike also prvides excellent background vocals on such songs as Beautiful girls, You're No Good, and Women in Love. His great voice makes up for David Lee Roth's mediocre voice.
Alex Van Halen. Drums-Great Drummer. Alex and Mike can easily keep up with the lightining quick EVH, but one thing that truly stands out is Alex's unique drumming. Instead of rellying soley on speed and intense fills, he relies more on cymbals. This really actually makes you want to listen to the drums and that makes the songs have a lot more staying power.
David Lee Roth. Voclas-His singing is sub-par at best (but thankufully the background vocals take care of that) and his lyrics may not be deep, but David provides some great one-liners which is really his signaure sound. Such as, "Somebody Give Me a Shot!" and "I love 'em! I need 'em! Can't do without 'em!"
Edward Van Halen. Guitar.-The genius behind VH. Edward amazed guitarists everwhere on Eruption, making two-tapping a requirement for all guitarists to have. Spanish Fly is just as good and fast as Eruption in my opinion. It combines the flamenco tone and chord changes with the speed of Eruption, making it one of EVH's best solos.
One thing I like about this album is that every song is unique. Dance the Night Away and Outta Love have a real dance feel to them, while Light up the Sky and Somebody Get Me a Doctor are hard rockers provide a real driving force with quick riffs and a quick rythm section. Beuatiful Girls is one of the best songs on here with a real bluesy feel to it that will instantly suck you in with its extremely catchy rythms and chorus. Women in Love is my absolute favorite on here. It opens up with a beautiful guitar solo by EVH and is quickly followed by excellent background vocals and another great chorus. You will never forget that song. Even if you only hear it once.
Van Halen II is one of my most favorite VH albums out there. I listen to it a lot and I never seem to get tired of it. If you like this album, VH has plenty of other great albums including Women and Children First, 1984, and Fair Warning.

not a bad review, but you should maybe talk about more songs insteard of the band members.
The only VH albums i've heard in full is their 1st one and 1984. What i've heard from there was pretty good though from what I remember.
