Release Date: 2000 | Tracklist

This Album is Coldplay's first Studio album. After releasing Various EP's this is the Album that made them hit the big time.

Don't Panic
A nice little start to the Album, infact it's proberly one of the Stand-Out tracks. It starts with a nice bit of mellow Guitar followed by a 'regimented' Drum Beat, The Bass then kicks to give the song some more depth. The song then slows down to leave a nice little Piano Solo, after this the song dies down a bit. Overall a Great start. 4.5/5

Shiver
This is Stand-out track No.2, This is one of my fav's on the album. The song kicks in with a very 'rocky' feel but then settles down into the more mellow Coldplay we know. The song is Driven By a fast Drum Beat and a Driving Bass line the Guitar also plays a nice little riff which sticks in your head for ages. 5/5

Spies
This Song starts with a very 'Spooky' bit of slide Guitar which then leads into a just Acoutic Guitar and Chris' Vocals. The song really kicks in in the Chorus where we hear some some more of the cool slide Guitar and the nice melodic Bass line. The song then slows to leave a nice ending. 4/5

Sparks
This is another nice little song. Again starts with Acoustic Guitar and Vocals but then in comes a with a very melodic Bass line the Drums are also in the background that give the song some depth. This song isn't one that really stands out to me but it's still a nice little 'chill out' tune. 3.5/5

Yellow
Stand out track No.3, This is my favourite on the Album. This is also the song that made Coldplay 'Big' in the UK. Starts off with Guitar and then the rest of the band come in again this is another one of their 'Rockier' songs. The song then mellows out with just the Bass and Drums but when the Chorus starts again it more of the same. Overall it's one of their best songs 5/5

Trouble
Stand out track No.4. This is another of Coldplays Piano anthems. Again it starts with a nice Piano line but this time theres some nice Bass played in the background. The song carrys on with Bass/Piano/Drums/Vocals but later on an Acoustic Guitar is added this gives the song a nice feeling. 5/5

Parachutes
This a very short song played by Chris. It's just him and an Acoustic Guitar. 3.5/5

High Speed
Another Typical Coldplay song, There's a nice use of all Instruments but to me it doesn't stand out. 3/5

We Never Change
Another Acoustic start but really starts when theres the Electric Guitar in the background, The Drums also add some depth the Bass isn't as prominent as it is in other songs on this album. 3/5

Everything's Not Lost
This Song is yet another Piano anthem and it doesn't let them album down. It's more of a Uplifting song and is a Big Sing along. Theres alot of dropping in and dropping out of instruments and the Bass line again is very melodic. 5/5

This is one of my favourite albums so I highly recomend it to anyone.

:D :D :D :D :) 4.5/5

Great album, great review once again. I'd say I like this one better than AROBTTH just cause it's great nightime music or music for just chillin' out.

Decent review, but I think High Speed and Parachutes are really good, as they're a little bit different.

Great album, wonderful review. Everything's Not Lost in particular really mutates live, with it becoming a complete audience singalong, and Chris working in stuff by Justin Timberlake and Nelly (among other people)!!

Yeah...I would imagine the magic deserted him there. There is very little that could make Jamelia even vaguely acceptable such is her lack of ability.

In my opinion, this album totally blows away "A Rush Of Blood To The Head". My favourite Coldplay songs are on "A Rush Of Blood To The Head", but as an album, "Parachutes" beats it by a mile. There are no crappy songs on here, where as on "A Rush Of Blood To The Head", there are quite a few.

Great album, dreadful review. I prefer reviews which tell me more than what instruments play on the track. It was written in June, so I guess you've improved since then, but meh.

I much prefer this one to A Rush of Blood, though both are good albums. I think Coldplay's been overhyped, especially back in 03-04, but they are a decent band. They also have great potential... I don't think they can match the level of Radiohead, but they can try.

This album does have weak spots though, balanced out by classic tracks like Trouble, Don't Panic etc. I'd give it 4/5.

This CD is amazing, bought it a few months ago only knowing Yellow and Trouble. The rest of the album is brilliant. IMO all the tracks are either 5 or 4.5 / 5.

Phenomenally consistent debut. In turn chilling, relaxing and moving.

The guitar work on this album surpasses it's follow ups and I think Chris' voice and piano is perfect here.

A modern classic

Yeah, I have AROBTTH and absolutely adore it... I never liked Yellow... I think it's annoying but Trouble is wonderful. I'll pick this one up as soon as I get some $$ *stares mournfully at empty wallet*

Continues to grow on me. Didn't like it at all at first, but it's so subtle and so moving. And why only 3/5 for We Never Change? It's my favourite track by far.

This album has grown on me like crazy. The less I like new Coldplay the more I love their older stuff. This is such a perfect light album.
