Review Summary: The album artwork is all you need to know how serious these guys are about their religion
Few have truly harnessed the almighty power of metal quite like the rugged hard-working people of Finland who, despite having to live such harsh winters for months on end, have managed to conquer all before them with their true understanding of the power of the riff. However, with great music comes great responsibility, a lesson passed down for generations among the hard working folk of Finland. Riff Worship is a testament to the struggles, triumphs, and craftsmanship of the people of Finland, Minnesota, and thus is worthy of all the praise it gets.
Riff Worship is the collaboration between two enigmatic deities Otu and Dale (collectively referred to by us mere mortals as ‘the rifflords’) after they came to the unfortunate realization that not enough people were being crushed under the weight of their heaviness. Whether it was due to a lack of goat-sacrifices or due to the sudden revival of scene bands we do not know. What is known however is that they decided to respond to the crisis, which leads us to this EP.
The three track names, while wildly different from one another as exemplified:
1.
March Onward The Sixth Movements VII – XIV
2.
F- S#*T
3.
Calling the Shots / Blackoutz
..really aren't that different from one another, in fact, they're quite the opposite in focus. Each of these tracks is in some form or another indulgence in fuzzed out metal. It's good fuzzed out metal, but only that nonetheless. At no point do these guys slow down for the duration of Riff Worship.
These rifflords are on a mission; they don’t have the time to deal with lyrics or mellowness or any of that stuff, because it gets in the way of their two primary goals: to riff hard, and to riff heavy. Some as a result may not appreciate the true beauty of being pulverized by Otu’s and Dale’s annihilative riffs, but those poor souls won't matter by the end of the album.
Riff Worship is just that, pure riffage for the sheer love of pure riffage, kept in a short and sweet time frame that will only enhance the already enviable reputation of Finland
