Review Summary: As big as your dreams are, are you gonna chase them whichever way?

I guess even the most stuck up snobs have to admit that they have enjoyed a pop song at one point or another. Because it would just be too strange if they didn't. There is just something about a catchy simple melody with a nice beat that few things can measure up to. And we all love fun times. And this is where I remember that I wrote this introduction in connection to a project from Andrew before. And it was bad. So, as expected, approaching this EP I was a bit, let's say, careful. And I was honestly pleasantly surprised.

Andrews second foray into straightforward pop-music is a drastic improvement over his first. First of all, the production on You Are The Devil was some of the worst he ever did. Here, it's almost the exact opposite. He brings a wide sonic palette to the table, with sprawling synths, kind of complex drums, guitars and flashy melody-lines, which all perfectly compliment each other. No track is underproduced or overproduced. Following the “Less is more“-motto, he creates some of his catchiest songs he ever made.

Starting with Night, though, this EP is off to a weird start, because it is just drowning in unnecessary autotune and club-oriented lyrics, without even being that catchy. To give him credit where credit is due, at least the lyrics aren't overly cocky, but instead an honest ode to his love of partying. But still, afterwards The Way Out picks the EP up and leads it into the summery vibe it strives for. Andrew and Jack Velvett give adorable rap-verses about summertime while being accompanied by chopped guitar-strums. Fever follows, being a synthie-fied version of the old jazz standard, as made popular by Peggy Lee. And he did his best at making the song sound as smooth as possible, with a steamy atmosphere, heavy bass and blinking percussion-synths. Too Much comes up next, with a dissonant melody and arguably the most confusing lyrics on the EP, although still being enjoyable.

And while every song on here is good, this EP ends with one of the biggest gamebreakers I ever encountered. Day By Day is a perfect pop-song on every basic level. It's catchy, it's layered, it's simple but effective, it uses unexpected instruments and just explodes into this massive chorus with inspirational lyrics. There are horns and strings popping up throughout the track, an amazing screaming guitar-solo by Andrew and an immensely catchy acapella-part. This song won't leave your head for weeks.

And so, Andrews second try at pop-music is definitely a good one, but clocking in at just 5 songs, too little music in general and two songs which are almost missteps, this sadly can't be given a rating above 3.5. But still, this is an impressively catchy project, more than worth your time and definitely deserving of a proper listen. And it has one of the best songs Andrew has ever put out. So what are you waiting for?

No I am not out of schedule, Wednesday will be a review of something other than Andrew. Be very afraid.

So Sputnik, how are you doing? What did you think of this review? What did you think of this project? Did my review make you want to listen to it?

I'd be more interested in this guy's stuff if his recording quality was better.

"And it was bad. So, as expected, approaching this EP, I was a bit, let's say, careful. And I was honestly pleasantly surprised"

You've got a shit ton of commas in that sentence, and you're missing a period at the end of your paragraph.

'„Less is more“-motto,'

Did you mean to have upside down quotations?

Otherwise decent review!

Fixed everything you said! And thanks, man!

Just one question. Why do you think his recording quality is bad? I think it's pretty good.

This doesn't seem like a bad review, by any means, but man do I dislike the fact that "elitist hipster" is said in the first sentence. I don't ever want to read a review that uses Internet terms like that, even though I know you probably were just trying to be funny.

No, you are right. I changed the first sentence to something that reads better and doesn't sound too stupid.

i honestly think youre creating more problems for this guy than doing him favors

at this point, everyone thinks you are probably him using a pseudonym to get his stuff out there, or that you arent being objective about your ratings at all because you know him personally

two things you should really try to avoid when reviewing you are doing with this.

1. reviewing music from people you know personally. it's always a bad idea.

2. reviewing an entire discography (this could be acceptable with 2 or 3 albums, but not with a catalogue this big).

if someone comes to this site and sees that EVERY album this guy has is reviewed by one person, chances are theyre probably not going to look into it. i know i wouldnt.

Okay, I can definitely see what you mean. Yeah, that's pretty logical. I think I will take a hiatus from reviewing his stuff for some time. Just a few things I want to say.

1. I don't know Andrew. I said that some times now. I am just a dude from Germany, I've never been to any of his shows, especially that he is just NOW doing his first tour in Europe, I have never seen him in person and I even never chatted with him. He is, after all, just a complete stranger to me.

2. I just thought that if I would make some advertising for him, he would get better known. I wouldn't have guessed that people assumed that I was him. Hell, I even posted links to my own music on here, so I thought this would be clear. But you're right, if someone isn't a regular reader on here, they wouldn't have a clue.

So, yeah, I guess that's it. But I at least planned to review some other music, soooo, Imma just do this now.

I'm not saying his recording quality is bad, it just sounds like it's not done in a professional studio. It's certainly by no means the worst, I'm just a stickler for good production. Given this guy produces & releases his music on his own, he lacks some outside perspective on his music.

Ah, okay. Yeah, as far as I'm informed he just kind of does everything in his own house or apartment, not sure what he is living in.

i dont want it to come across like im docking your writing at all, you're a good writer. its just that this kind of thing usually hurts more than it helps.

case and point, i was under the impression that you knew this guy. i had no idea you didnt. the fact that you have reviewed every single album hes put out just gives off that impression. imagine everyone else who reads these and thinks the same thing. they would probably lambaste the dude for having some guy plug his stuff, even though that wasnt your intent at all.

its all a matter of how the audience is going to interpret what you are doing, and at this point i dont think they would interpret it favorably.

so keep writing, just lay off this guys stuff for now. its probably for the better.

No, it didn't come across like that, don't worry.

Yes, I understand that now. It really doesn't help him anymore. Too many people will assume that I know him personally.

On the other hand, I already had some other reviews planned, so, these will happen next while I take a break from him.
