With the third album from Australia's Psycroptic, it seems as though the technical death metal crown has been stolen from the almight Necrophagist. While the legendary German quartet remains engulfed in tours, Psycroptic has conquered their own discography with an album that shows an incredible progression of style.
Symbols of Failure is simply 40 minutes of unbridled musical chaos. The riffs are, as usual, spastic bursts of aural aggression set atop a jackhammer-like rhythm section of rolling bass and face-raping drums. Riffs seem refined to a state of twisted listenable madness...disgusting, yet captivating. The music takes extreme metal intensity to a new level while accented beautifully by the addition of vocalist Jason Peppiatt, who shifts seemlessly between guttural roaring and piercing shrieks. If
Onset of Putrefaction caught your ear, then waste no time acquiring
Symbols of Failure, because from the beginning of
Alpha Breed to the end of
Cleansing a Misguided Path, Psycroptic sits atop their throne of pandemonium.
