Well alot of people will call this a comback for Limp Bizkit. But its not really considering there last album came out 2 years before this one and alot of other bands wait more than that. But in terms of Wes Borland coming back I guess it is a sort of comeback. First off throw all your Limp Bizkit hate away when you approach this album. I dont really like Fred Durst that much but I dont think hes as bad as everyone would like to think he is. I believe that he has talent and OK lyrical ability. Now he has written alot of crap but you can say that about everyone. I think what most people hate about him is his poser like rapping that pisses people off or his ego being run in overdrive. Now having said all that I think that he has came along way since the days of Nookie and Break Stuff. Not only is this album very wel written but the songs instrumentally are some of there best and definitly better then the emo crap thats out there now. Wes Borland screaming guitar has never sounded better and he seems comfortbale as he playes through the wopping 7 songs. The bass playing by Sam Rivers is tight and very smooth and John Ottos drums are shattering and hard. The band together sound very nice and tight and sound like they have something to prove with this album.
1.The Propaganda
Very nice start to the album as it kicks off with a kick ass guitar riff that seals that Wes Borland is one of the most creative guitarists of our era. Fred Durst spurts out "Tell em' how to sell it/ Its propaganda". Then shoots off with "Dont tell me how to keep my composure/ It aint over till I get me some closure". Its a very nice head banging song that has a message about the goverment and the media. Some of Limp Bizkits best stuff. 4/5.
2.The Truth
Woah this is Limp Bizkit. I was amazed at how well this song came together. The sizzling bassline at the beginning bridges into a guitar riff with the same flow. Great lyrics as well as Durst spits out lines like hes a army general "Now speak to your leader/ Now speak to your leader". Then goes into a sort of prayer. Couldent be better musically as the song hits you with guitar riffs and sends you into a daze with the bass lines. 4.5/5.
3.The Priest
Sort of slow song at the beginning with a slow bass line that slides its way into a sliding guitar riiffs under Dursts vocals about the catholic church. A very touchy subject but its done right as he dosent go too far but far enough. Very powerful moment in the song when Durst yells out "Stop everything something is not feeling right/ The planets are not all alligned/ I know it. Ive felt this before/My evil is thirsting for more." Very good stuff there and worth a listen. Again it feels like hes grown up and learned how to put lyrics together so they dont sound childish or stupid. 4.5/5.
4.The Key
A hip hop song( the only one on the alubm). Not a huge fan of this one because the lack of guitars but its not bad either. He smoothly delivers the simple but again good lyrics and it dosent overstay its welcome. 3/5
5.The Channel
Another nice riff in this song that keeps the song moving along and steady. The song does feel like its missing a hook and it is not quite there int terms of lyrical potential. The song has to do with the crap on tv and what not. I agree with the things he says but it dosent make it a great song in my mind. Still not a bad song in any means. 3/5
6. The Story
Couldent of been done any better. The great guitar riff is explosive coming out of the shoot and it mixes great with the powerful lyrics. And once the awesome chorus kicks in you begin to belive that the band is achieving there peak. "Lets talk about the Hardcore that aint hard anymore/ or the *** talkers who aint *** anymore/ or the old fighters who cant fight anymore/ or those white kids who aint white anymore". Such a well done song and delvers its message with ease. This song should be enough to buy this album. Great stuff here. 5/5
7.The Surrender
No more hard stuff here just a simple guitar and very soft lyrics. Nicely done and shows of Durst singing ability. Its not his strength but its definitly not a weakness.Simple song that shoulent be skipped over as I feel that it completes the album overall. And gives you a sense of relief as the hard rocking stops and the album closer kicks in. 4/5.
Again please listen without any prejuduce against limp bizkit. There not the bad band everyone talks about and Fred Durst delivers a well nuanced performance that shouldnt be overlooked.
Thanks
