haarp ‘The Filth’ Review (Housecore Records)
‘Housecore Records recording artists ‘haarp’ have undoubtedly created one of the dirtiest and heaviest records of recent times. Once again the NOLA scene has produced another band that is stamping their mark with their oppressive music and vocal style, firstly in America and then eventually Worldwide.’
‘The Filth (the bands first full length album) was produced by none other than Philip H Anselmo and the recording/CD is available through Housecore Records. Consisting of members from former Grindcore and Black Metal projects alike, ‘haarp’ bring you everything that’s good about metal. Musically it’s a mixture of slow Sludge/Doom riffs, with some Hardcore parts too. Vocally, well this guy has to be one of the best extreme metal vocalists both in terms of his range and his in your face approach. The vocals are very much guttural Death Metal, meets higher pitched Hardcore (from time to time).’
‘There will typically be critics who as always will say: ‘Just another same old, slow Doom/Sludge band from New Orleans.’ However, yes most bands could, if they wanted, tune low and play slow, but could they deliver such oppression, together with raw emotion/passion from their music? I doubt it! It’s both fresh and powerful at the same time. Soilent Green, Crowbar and Eyehategod all have their own distinctive style and the same can be said about ‘haarp’. They simply do not sound like anyone else, thus ‘haarp’ really are the band that people are talking about.’
‘If you want to be oppressed and beaten to a pulp then go check this band/album out – you won’t be disappointed!’ There isn’t anything remotely trendy/pretty about this band, or their music, this is simply real metal the way it was always supposed to be!’
