Bullet for My Valentine are:
Matthew 'Matt' Tuck: vocals
Michael 'Padge' Padget: guitar
Jason 'Jay' James: Bass
Michael 'Moose' Thomas: drums
Bullet for my valentine are a welsh four piece that originally were known as Jeff Killed John, the foursome that would go on to become Bullet For My Valentine formed in 1999 while studying music at Bridgend College. Starting out as a Nirvana and Metallica covers band, in 2002 they released a two-track CD (You/Play With Me) through the Pynci scheme for new Welsh musicians, helping them secure a live Radio 1 broadcast at Newport's TJ's. Originally they played identikit nu-metal, before it went out of fashion and fate forced a rethink. Jeff Killed John changed tack and recruited Jason James on bass to rework their sound. More crucially, they got rid of their "rubbish" name and so Bullet For My Valentine were born.
Now on to the review (note this is my first review)
Track 1 Intro
This is just a musical piece with some very in depth and very medolic guitar the start reminds me of boiler by limp bizcuit but overall a nice start to the album 3/5
Track 2 Her voice resides
Just when you relax from the opening track Matt just screams which knocks you off your seat . Its a hardcore metal song with loads of pinched harmonics and palm muting also with moose using the blast beat alot (you will notice in this album his drumming has really come along) Then it goes to matt singing "you are my angel i need you now" this is where the album really starts 4.5/5
Track 3 4 Words
The first single of the album . This has a great intro with some lead guitar and scrapes which then leads into a drum roll then harmonics. I love the way Matt changes from screaming to singing in this song , i feel it really works well. Then the chourus comes in with great chatchy singing (a good choice for a single) I also have to comment on the double bass used in this song , its amazing then the song bursts into a great solo consisting of loads of triplets . Overall a brilliant song 5/5
Track 4 Tears dont fall
Personally this is my favourite song on the album the scream at the start with the guitar is breath taking. Then it goes into the verse with Matt singing calmly then bursts into the pre chourus shouting "the path i walked , in the wrong direction" then for a split second everthing stops and the chourus hits in with a great combination of double bass medolic guitar and vocal work . In this song Matt really shines 5/5
Track 5 Suffocating Under The Words Of Sorrow (What Can I Do)
The second single of the album this song truly has the best guitar work the intro reminds me a bit of rose of sharyn by killswitch engage. The vocal work in this song isnt great but the music keeps it going with a few solos from both Matt and Michael. Once again the druming is excellent moose has really improved. A solid 4/5
Track 6 Hit the floor
This song has some good lead guitar and great drums. I really like Matts singing in the chourus because it follows the guitar. I have to comment on the lyrics i feel they are a bit pathetic but the rest of the song is great. The highlight of the song has to be the outro 3.5/5
Track 7 . All These Things (Revolve Around Me)
The third single of the album. It has a great star with just clean guitar and clean singing the n suddenly Matt screams as the chourus hits. The second verse has great hi-hat work from moose. This song is another great choice for a single. Very catchy 5/5
Track 8 Room 409
I feel from this song the album starts to go down hill from here. This song has a great intro also i really like the delay effect on Matts voice in some parts of the song. This song is is probably the heaviest on the album with group vocal work in the chourus and another good solo 4/5
Track 9 The Poison
The title track of the album with a very emo like intro and chourus and sadly the drumming isnt as good as the rest of the album. I feel they could have done better for a title track but thats my opinion 2/5
Track 10 10 Years
I feel this song has a great build up of an intro also with a catchy chourus but sadly lame lyrics. I feel they mention 10 years ago too much but still a strong track with a great interlude and another cool effect on Matts voice in the chourus and a cool flanger like effect on the guitar in the interlude 4/5
Track 11 Cries in vain
Personally the worst song on the album. This song is incredibly emo like it stars off like tears dont fall . This song is alot like Fureral for a friend. The chourus to me is too whiny and high pitched. The drumming is ok as is the guitar but still i feel this is the worst song on the album 2/5
Track 12 Spit you out
Has a bit of a plain intro with nothing exciting but gradually picks up as the song furthers. I really like the guitar work in the chourus and the singing. Also the singing in the verse has a great contrast of shouting and clean singing another well put together track from brmv 3.5/5
Track 13 End
First of all i feel that every band or so have started calling their last track with the word end in it. But this song has a great intro with some clean guitar and bass (yes you can hear the bass in this song) then moose comes in with a very simple but effective drum beat. Matts singing in this song is great. The lead guitar once again is great in this song too a good end to a great album 4/5
Pros
*Great lead guitar
*Some good sining
*Excellent drumming
Cons
*Can get a bit samey
*Can sound a bit emo like
*Cant hear the bass
I feel that bfmv are a great band who i feel can really shine if given the right directions this album is for anyone who is a fan of emo to metalcore
The one that annoys me is that people are always mistaking this band for emo when they are not because they have guitar solos and some great clean vocal work plus i have seen them live and they are definitely metal
i hope you like this review
