Review Summary: Ovdi Pls.

Ovid's Withering are a self described "theatrical tech-metal" who incorporate elements of death metal, symphonic black metal and metalcore to create incredibly cohesive well written music. After releasing they're debut EP "The Cloud Gatherer", which garnered the unit quite a decent following since the release of it in March of 2012. they have been busy touring and working on they're debut LP. Now fast forward to November of this year where Ovid's Withering have dropped they're debut full length: "Scryers Of The Ibis". Featuring 12 songs that clock in at a whopping 1 hour and 12 minutes, Scryers is a surprisingly easy to listen album that at no point loses momentum. Now onto the music it self.

Out of 12 tracks, 3 songs are the re-recorded versions from the previously mentioned EP which are tracks 3,8, and 12 and 1 song track 11 (The Reckoning. The Summoning. The Storm) was previously a single. All of these songs were done justice with stepped up production and excellent placement among the album. Full of haunting and epic synths, heavy chugging throughout, well placed interludes, and monstrous vocals with lyrics that speak of the great tales of greek mythology, Ovid's Withering are a band that knows how to capitalize on they're strengths.

As much I am enjoying this album there are a few flaws I picked up on relatively quickly and those are that a few parts feel very forced and tacky. Such as the spoken word interlude in "Earth Shaker II" (Although I'll admit it sounds epic as ***) and the clean vocals on "The Reckoning. The Summoning. The Storm" and thats not to say they can't pull of clean vocals, they just didn't fit into that song.

So with very limited weaknesses Ovids Withering prove themselves a very capable unit for a band that show a lot of maturity for a band whom just released they're first full length. If you like symphonic black metal and well executed deathcore this album will be on your jock for time, I guarantee it. Thanks for reading.

Album is pretty good. Only thing that bugged me was the "djenty" riffs here and there cuz they're really boring

This band is HUGE
Generally don't like djent but these guys have a neat sound
It's like Abigal Williams banged an above-average death metal band and this thing emerged
