Review Summary: Timeless
Yasushi Yoshida composes music that falls into multiple genres. It lies somewhere between, classical, post-rock and electronic music. While it may seem complex sounding, this album should captivate almost any listener. For those of you who are familiar with the Final Fantasy franchise and its soundtracks, this album creates a similar soundscape. Blissful and calm, without forcing itself on you.
The sounds on this album range from various orchestral instruments, to acoustic guitar and some electronic quirks here and there. A beautiful piano is always setting the tone. While I'm no expert when it comes to sound, the production on this album is very clean and the instruments mix very well. They work very well together. Each one has its time and place, adding to the overall quality and progression of the songs. I couldn't tell whether the instruments are synthesized, nor do I really care.
The songs on the album are structured in an interesting way. This is far from your typical verse-chorus-verse-bridge-chorus type of songs. Instead, the songs on the album feel like a journey, like a story being told, quite literally. This story is for you to decide. You'll most likely think of your most nostalgic and joyful experiences. Or, you can choose to embrace the present and be submerged into this beautiful world of fantasy. Regardless, an interesting journey awaits you.
This album manages to sound beautiful and touching, but just at the right amount. This isn't the sort of album that will leave you with some sort of tune or chorus stuck playing in your head, but is rather a whole experience. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys classical music.
