Review Summary: Love.
Hello Deftones, the ever-changing one. Consistent quality is always your priority, but it has never kept you stagnant. The only thing that remains the same is you're still infatuated with love. Hell, you're beyond infatuated. You have it, and you treasure it, but you want more. It's the quiet downtime, the late night drive home, the feeling of her hand in yours -
oh, her. She's the reason you've continued to put out new material every couple of years. The reason you press forward and continue to change sonically even as your dear friend remains hospitalized. And she's also the reason you're one of the most accessible, popular, rewarding, and constantly moving bands in the industry.
It's easy to see that love controls you. Chino - you make it the most obvious. Your vocal delivery could cause almost anyone to swoon, creating dream sequences which guide the listener through passages which are nothing less than ecstatic. You scream and cuss occasionally, but this only helps the strength of your love as it solidifies and makes clear the importance of your relationship. And the rest of the band completes the picture of this love. Yes, you guys play 'alternative metal', and you're pretty dissonant at times - but you're never angry. You can't be angry. Your sound is only
violent because these feelings are so overpowering. The electric guitar is the ring around her finger, and the bass and keyboards are the commitment. The ring is the first thing everyone notices, but once they get to know you they see it doesn't matter nearly as much as the general atmosphere and feeling of just being there for one another.
And at this point in time it looks like your evolution and happiness will continue into the future. Why wouldn't it? You have everything going for you. And even though you've been together for nearly twenty-five years, you still find ways to keep your love fresh. Don't worry, we notice it too. Regardless of what anyone says, we can't help but adore your wonderful relationship.
Koi No Yokan.
