I have loved NIN ever since my bro let me hear them back when I was like 7 (great influence). And before I begin I would like to add that Dave Grohl of Nirvana and Foo Fighters fame did the live drums on this album. Well this here is my first review, so please tell me how I do.

Track 1: All the Love in the World
The album starts off with this slow track, but later picks up and turns a little on the "poppy" side. Good beats and lyrics, which seem to be kind of hateful with the lines "Why do you get all the love in the world?” At the end Trent tries to sing in a really soft, high voice and some hate it and some love it and great piano additions as well. Overall a pretty good opener. 4/5

Track 2: You Know What You Are?
The next track picks up the pace, and returns us to the very raw, heavy beats and lyrics. Very angst driven lyrics and lots of screamed lines. Dave Grohl does the drums for this song and he kicks total a**. Great song. 5/5

Track 3: The Collector
Dave Grohl treats us again, and Trent is not to be forgotten either, seeing as he is the brains. This song is great after a few listens. It took me a while to get used to it, it just didn’t appeal to me at first. It talks about feeding off of emotions and such and choking on the things he collects…I have no idea. But a good change none the less. 3.5/5

Track 4: The Hand That Feeds
One of the singles off of the album and a great song at that. The message is all about standing up for yourself and not doing whatever you’re told. Great effects in the beginning, which make it sound like your ears are plugged in a concert….weird. Trent is yet again a master at writing lyrical masterpieces. Great upbeat sound with all the same angst driven lyrics. 4.5/5

Track 5: Love is Not Enough
I don’t particularly care for this song, but some of you may disagree. Don’t get me wrong, it is a good song, but I just can’t get into it. Distortions and strange effects galore, makes it a very different listen from all the other tracks thus far. 3/5

Track 6: Everyday is Exactly the Same
Another single released off of the album, and it is a terrific change from all the other crazy heavy sounding songs. This song makes you feel down and sad, and it kind of reminds me of the movie Groundhog’s Day, since it is about someone who is living the same day everyday. Good piano in the background and I think Dave does the drums on this track, if it isn’t a drum machine. Great Listen. 5/5

Track 7: With Teeth
The first thing I must say about this song is the bass is unbelievable if you have it up super loud. Kind of scared me when I first heard it super loud. From what I understand this song is about a relationship turned sour and some chick just won’t let go. It’s an ok song, but I think it’s a little ridiculous when Trent says “Withha Teettha”, which is what it sounds like. Good track. 4/5

Track 8: Only
Return to the pop sound with the third and final single from the album. The music video is probably the coolest I have ever seen, with things happening to random office objects, from coffee and pin things, and a computer. But anyway….all about a guy who makes someone up to hurt himself, and picking scabs and other disturbing things. Great drumlines and piano in the background which makes a great atmosphere. Superb song. 5/5

Track 9: Getting Smaller
Picks up the pace yet again with this great pissed off song. The drums sound live but I could be wrong, but the sound is very raw and heavy. Great distorted guitar in the background add the little touches again. Another perfect song from the master. 5/5

Track 10: Sunspots
This song kind of reminds me of closer, in the way that it is soft yet very…I don’t know. The chorus is “She turns me on, she makes me real...” so maybe that’s why. Catchy chorus melody and everything else is very well done, like the drumming, and effects. 4/5

Track 11: The Line Begins to Blur
Another very raw song with what seems to be a recurring theme of disappearing, which is present throughout the whole cd. Not sure what else to say about this song. Very strange but I like the strange stuff so, there. 3.5/5

Track 12: Beside You In Time
This song is very sad sounding and melancholic, but very well done, as is everything about this cd. I love the constant bass beat and the strange sounding humming in the background. The vocals stop at about 2:30 and the humming leads you into a little heavier part at about 4 minutes. Great song to listen to when you are depressed or tired or just kind of p’ed off. 4/5

Track 13: Right Where It Belongs
The final track on the store bought version but you get a bonus track on the pre-ordered or online version. But anyway, this song is f***ing awesome. I can’t describe this song, and it fits perfectly as an ending song as it is probably the softest song and quite possibly the best on the album. You simply have to hear it. Mostly piano and strange wah-wah effects, and the sounds of cheering people fit perfectly in at about 3 minutes, because this song deserves it all the way.

Great cd and I definitely recommend it to anyone and everyone. Please comment on my first review, hope it was worth your while.

Bad review, acceptable for a first I guess. You barely describe the album, the comments you make aren't helpful or descriptive. None of this review described the album at all.

A little harsh there, Galapogos.

It's a good review for someone who is already familiar with Nine Inch Nails' sound. Keep reviewing, it's a good start. My suggestion for a better review is to go outsid the track-by-track and give more commentary on the overall album, from a more general standpoint.

This album is great; but the stereo version is nothing compared to the 5.1 mix. That is really epic. Beside You In Time is classic.

I dont really find this album too great. Its good, but something about it never really grabbed me fully... I dont consider myself a fan of the industrial style metal I think it might grow on me though

He play'd most of the instruments himself. Pro Tools can be a godsend.

he'd have a backing band onstage though for live shows...if he could do all that himself, holy shit

Only, The Hand That Feeds and Love Is Not Enough are great but the last 4 songs are awesome (yes I include Sunspots as the heavier parts in it really have an impact on me).
