Review Summary: My favorite weapon is this cd. Best used on pop punk haters.

I might lose a lot of Brand New credentials but I honestly don't like Daisy and TDARGIM very much. I think that's mostly because I think Jesse is a big hack (sometimes) and they are heavily influenced and especially dissonant-influenced. That is not to say that they don't have some good parts, but for the most part its just not very good at all. There are a couple highlights however and their career would soon take off after this so its definitely good that they made other ones, but this is the best by far.

This is the first album where Brand News starts up their regime and it's a pop punk classic! Although you wouldn't know that from the goofy first song called The Shower Scene which has to be the dumbest thing to write about of all time. Especially when the lyrics range from "and this is me in his room" to "caught in the explosion". Yeah pretty lame guys. Jude Law and a Semester Abroad is a pretty good song however and its got a nice riff to it but be WARNED: this is the first time they use loud pop punk chants, something that would pervade their other albums in the near future!

There are some really good tracks on this towards the end such as No Seatbelt Song which has a cool melancholy melody, 70 Times 7 which everyone already knows, and Soca Amaretto Lime, which is my personal favorite on the album. Its too bad that they took so long to get to these really good tracks and it feels like it would make a better pop record than a Brand New one but personaly I want the two to mix! Sadly they dropped all of these influences except the chants for their albums to come and were all the worse for it.

I'll be honest here: all your reviews so far feel really rushed and aren't that great. I know not every review is perfect (heck, I'm not exactly the best reviewer on the site), but try and be objective in your reviews, and try and fill them out a bit. Try talking about individual songs, and talk about the musicianship as a whole, in terms of guitar, vocals, etc. That will pad your reviews out and make them less repetitive.
