Review Summary: Desaster take their place with the greatest

This German band has been putting out black thrash albums for a while now, almost 20 years, and have a strong following. They have consistently put out good albums, and their latest, The Arts of Destruction, is no exception. After going through most of their releases, I have enjoyed this one the most, and it is possibly their strongest.

The riffs in this are very memorable; the songs will stick in your head. The drumming is excellent and the bass is audible. The production overall is outstanding. Guido "Sataniac" Wissmann, the vocalist, has a unique voice and the band can generally be recognized by his sick vocal delivery, which sounds kind of like a harsher, throatier John Tardy of Obituary.

This is a very strong album and my favorite of 2012 so far. There are no weak songs on this album, really. It opens with a great intro, thrashes the hell out of you for forty minutes, and closes with the perfect outro. The Arts of Destruction will certainly be a contender for best release of 2012. If you enjoy black metal or thrash metal, don't miss this one.
