Summary: Man! This ain't an album, this is a collection of songs! I THREW IT ON THE GROUND

0 of 1 thought this review was well written

Jorma Taccone puts it simply in the first track: We started this fake rap ***, the world needs us! This statement is actually true, because now and then, one wants to take a break from the usual (Lil' Wayne, Kanye West, Jay-Z, Eminem) and just listen to some goofy music. Ironically, one wants this goofy music to actually be good, and then you have a problem. Luckily, there is some good goofy music left, as evidenced by The Lonely Island in 2009 with Incredibad. Now what would you expect from their next album? Well, this is what there is: Bank Robberies, Celebrities saying things you didn't think they would (Santigold was priceless, but nothing beats Natalie Portman in Natalie's Rap) and screaming made amazing by Taccone. Oh yeah, and throwing stuff on the ground.

In case you didn't know, The Lonely Island is a comedy music trio (Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer) who do skits on SNL. The thing is, most of these songs have a video, and songs such as Shy Ronnie 2 and The Creep really only work with the video, because without them, they're barely understandable. The Skits barely add anything to the album, and if anything interrupt the flow of the album. If the songs don't fall into one of these categories, they're either not funny, or funny. We're Back and Mama both have an intense amount of shouting but are hilarious nonetheless. The comments made about the trio's penises are hilarious, and the switching between a serene, thoughtful, loving song devoted to the mothers of the artists, and a hating and somewhat saddening relationship with their mother's is laughable, and i actually found myself laughing to this song the most.

I Just Had Sex I found not funny, but catchy instead. I think they were going for something like I'm On A Boat, but the song is simply not as funny as it could've been. Jack Sparrow is funny, but it definitely is funnier with the video. Michael Bolton's constant off-topic choruses are no doubt laughable, but it does become repetitive. Attracted To Us is plain boring, but Rocky I found enjoyable. A useless interlude leading into Turtleneck and Chain, a song that has a nice guest spot from Snoop Dogg, but the song becomes incredibly monotonous and it almost feels like they got tired of writing lyrics so they just repeated the idea of Turtleneck sweaters, chains and Light Beers.

Skipping Shy Ronnie 2, Trouble On Dookie Island has probably the oddest name, but a nice beat and lyrics that I think are about a bank robbery (another one) but sounds like a movie trailer. Good and enjoyable track. Motherlover is good, but it feels like they had to make a sequel to Dick In A Box, but it's nowhere near as good. Skipping Creep and another useless skit, Threw It On The Ground is probably another one of my favorites, eventhough the comedy is really cheesy, it's a fun beat. I think they were thinking of this becoming a meme, like Jizz In My Pants, but only time will tell if it will actually happen. Japan takes a while to like and the comedy is just stupid, but we'll laugh at it because of that fact. After Party is great, and Santigold actually adds something to this track, unlike most guests. Finally No Homo has stupid comedy, much like Japan, but the increasing homosexuality of the three is actually pretty funny.

If you like comedy and fake rap. You will like this album. The album does not focus on being anything special, but merely to entertain, and these guys will do anything (and by that I mean rap about anything) if it means getting laughs out of the audience. Just make sure you don't throw it on the ground.F

Yeah I agree, Incredibad pretty much rules.

Even the better songs on this kind of need the video to accompany them.

They are so hit and miss. They could have a higher funny % if they just had some sort of editor to catch the terrible stuff before it makes it on the cd.

Incredibad was awesome, but what I've heard from this has been shockingly bad.

I didn't like I Just Had Sex. The humor is really forced.

I personally didn't think this album was bad, i just thought that Incredibad had better humor in general and some of these songs are just unfunny. I Just Had Sex was unfunny in general and Shy Ronnie has never been funny, which is a shame, because judging on what they did with Norah Jones on Dreamgirl, they could've done so much more with Rihanna. It really is a shame with some of these songs. But some of them are actually surprisingly good even when you don't expect it to be.

The first time I heard 'I Just Had Sex' I thought it was forced and lazy. But after repeated listens it just stuck with me. The pure childish joy/triumph in the simple lyrics makes it seem as if they really did just finish having relations with Jessica Alba and Blake Lively.

It does work better with the video admittedly, but that's one of my favorites here.
