Review Summary: i think its lint

4 of 6 thought this review was well written

Pocketwatch is a demo album made up of songs recorded by Dave Grohl under the pseudonym Late! between 1990 and 1991, back when he had balls. The difference between this album and Foo Fighters later albums is this is much more aggressive, you can tell he had real anger to let out on some of these tracks. The album starts with the instrumental Pokey The Little Puppy, the song has a hard drive, thanks to Daves awesome drumming, the repetitive riff also rules and is catchy as hell. The song, like many of the songs on the album is very simple, but the extremely solid drumming helps keep the songs alive and pounding. The second track Petrol CB starts with a hard and filthy riff. We then hear Daves sing for the first time. While his vocals arent quite developed yet, he has some really sweet moments, the vocal harmony in the chorus is especially great. The production varies during the course of the album, as some songs were recorded at different times and studios, but its easily listenable throughout. The instrumentation is solid throughout, Dave plays every instrument, just like the Foo Fighters s/t. The album is very guitar driven and while the riffs are quite simplistic, they are rarely uninteresting. The drums are as legendary as you'd expect. Its Dave doing what he does best, pounding the *** out of them. The lyrics are basic yet interesting, the best being on the track Just Another Story About Skeeter Thompson, a humorous spoken word song about some guy pointing his dick at Dave while in Amsterdam, crazy stuff. The album also features an early version of the famous Marigold, which was later rerecorded with Krist Novoselic as a Nirvana b-side. The song Hells Garden is very Nirvana esque, three simple chords repeated over and over throughout the entire song, with a more aggressive chorus, its a really catchy formula.

If you loved the Foo Fighters first album you will dig this a lot. While Daves song writing has improved as time has gone on, especially on the first two Foo Fighters albums, this is a slightly rawer, more aggressive and just as awesome sounding as those albums. If you're favourite Foo Fighters album is In Your Honor, chances are you are too pussy for this, but give it a go anyway. Album rules, Dave Grohl rules.

"Throwing Needles" and "Color Pictures of a Marigold" are my favorite tracks off this.
Dave should remaster this for his more devoted fans.
