You lie there, still in your bed. Feeling the weight of the sheets upon your chest. You're awake. You raise your body and perch your back on the wall behind you. There's a slight breeze from the open window just above your bed. The slow wind alerts your senses, and brings along a smell that envelopes your nostrils. Gasoline? Industries. You know the lights are on down there. The view from the hills pulses in out of detail in your mind. It's all just across the river. Or is the source closer than that? Fire?
Nevertheless it's soothing. Something familiar at this late hour, which isn't even late enough.

You peek through the blinds. Lamppost exposes the area, but it's all in a slight haze. Like the city lights were, back when you were a kid staring out the side window of the car that once stood in the garage outside. You were squinting your eyes making the traffic lights obtuse, like firework.
Reaching for your glasses, you feel your half naked body shiver from the cold air rolling in the window. It's summer, yet it might as well be autumn. Those moments in the morning, just before dawn.

With improved vision you look out again. It's all the same. Nothing new. Turning away with a blank mind you look at you equally blank television. You can almost hear the canned laughter, even though it's off.
Feeling enclosed by your dark room you want out. Out through the window. To crawl over the slating roof tiles and to jump down on the damp asphalt below. To walk.
It's just like all the other thing you want. Because all you want is currently not, in motion to existence.
