Review Summary: I’m tired of giving you examples of times when I have said things I’d later regret.

There really isn’t all that much to say about Old Gray aside from the fact that they’re incredibly talented. Hailing from the Northeast United States, this four man band recorded a four song demo over two days. In its short play time it’s reminiscent of 90’s emo, and also incorporates a bit of math rock. Old Gray’s sound crosses bouncy guitars with that math rock influence found in the first two tracks. Their vocals, while both harsh and clean, are shared by all four members in fits of shouting. “Wayward Kids”, which is the demo’s shortest song, best captures the band’s sound as a whole as it features the bouncy hooks mixed with math-y guitars and finishing with the group shouting that’s present throughout the demo. “Ryan Mitchell” is the polar opposite, the demo’s longest song and the most diverse song. Starting out slower, it’s less chaotic than the former and takes more of an emo influence. The last song on the EP is a perfect example of the band’s ability for harsh vocals. While it’s only present in a small portion of the song, the song itself is no doubt up to par in quality as the rest of the demo. Old Gray’s Demo is obviously only a taste of what’s to come. They’re currently working on new material, and were just signed to an indie label. It’s not meant to be technical music, it’s meant to be fun. It sounds like a jam session because essentially that’s what it was. Every band starts somewhere and for these guys it’s easy to say that they’re doing it the right way.

Hey now this is pretty good. Love the sample in "Vulcan Death Grip" and I'm not even a star trek fan.

I don't know sometimes I like writing them and sometimes I feel like they are sloppy, short and belong better as a soundoff.

Nonetheless the key to them is saying enough, but not too much to warrant just one paragraph.

i don't know i can't help but feel that this will end up sounding just like another generic mix of all the really popular emo bands in the scene(hence your recs by reviewer). i used to be at a point where i would just dive into all of this shit and praise any emo release, but the scene could really use some innovation.

i might be completely off seeing as i didn't read the review or listen to these guys, but idk.

Emo revival, not bringing anything new, but not bad by any means.

I'm with Enotron on this one. I've been on an emo and twinkle binge recently and a lot of it is really starting to run together. This band is not bad, I enjoyed my listen ... but there really isn't much here that I can't find anywhere else. I doubt I'll give these guys more than spin.
