Summary: prepare to have your mind exploded into the next dimension.

3 of 3 thought this review was well written

There is something inherently science-fiction about trance music, and especially goa and psytrance. As it is completely computer generated apart from the occasional vocal, or sparse instrument samples, one could easily imagine the music to be out of this world. Whether it would flow in alien nightclubs or through the speaker systems of massive space vessels, “alien” was always the best word to describe such outlandish music. Trance has truly passed the test of time. Year after year, there would be a great many albums to prove the reliance of the old genre, for despite the overuse of synthesizers, the genre sounds anything but overused. Now that we’re in the middle of 2011, one automatically wonders if the genre has taken any hits, but as always, the answer is no. Trinodia, with an intentional focus on spacey soundscapes, has crafted one of the best goa trance albums of the year.

Although the title of the album is Human History, the talked about human history is in comparison to science fiction concepts. In other words, the music is entirely unearthly, and this is quite evident from the music’s idiosyncrasies. The only human aspect of the album originates from some vocal samples wherein they babble about scientific advancements and so on, but even this is done so as to feel detached. As a whole, Human History swipes us into the reaches of space, but although unfamiliar, the music emits warmth. It is like floating past the sun in your star ship, with the ability to see its beauty and feel its warmth without being instantly vaporized.

As expected, the synthesizer is the main instrument in Human History, and never before have synthesizers been used so beautifully. Glorious melodies are key in Trinodia’s work, and one can’t help feeling that they are a part of something epic. It is a grand spectacle for the ears with bright, dazzling electronics, and as the genre title suggests, the music is entrancing. If one were to complain about this music, they might mention its cheesiness, but this is hardly worth a complaint. The melodies are fun and memorable, and indeed, it is difficult to imagine anyone not liking this album. When it comes to spacey, cheery, melodious goa trance, look no further than Trinodia’s Human History.

Every time I listen to psytrance I end up just wanting to listen to Shpongle. That aside, the tracks I just listened to were pretty damn good.

Shpongle is essential, but there's definitely stuff out there that's just as good as Shpongle.
