1986 was the best year ever made.
Master of Puppets was the technical, serious thrash album for serious critics.
Reign in Blood was the brutal brute-fest of brutal death and gore, for death/gore maniacs.
But the record for people who were really pissed off, maybe because they got kicked out of their band, or maybe they were just pissed, I don't know, but that record was Megadeth's second record, Peace Sells...But Who's Buying.
First things first, Dave Mustaine is the best. His voice sounds like evil cats getting molested by squirrels, while shouting out a battle cry for viking warriors, but while being pissed off. He plays riffs like a beast, and is certainly one of the best guitarists to walk the Earth. The long-forgotten Chris Poland is often over-shadowed by Mr. Rust in Peace himself, Marty Friedman, but Chris Poland really holds his own on this record. He is pissed off, and he plays like it, and the dual guitars of Poland and Mustaine are awesome, because they really play off each other. And David Ellefson is a thrash bass God. You know how Cliff Burton would only show up to show his bass-sounds-like-guitar trick? Like Bop Hope on the Tonight Show? Well, David's bass is evident always, like Ed McMahon. He plays with almost funky furiosity and precision, and he rocks. And the late Gar Samuelson plays fast and hard, like Gene Hoglan or the similarly-deceased Ingo Switchenberg of Helloween fame.
Every song is awesome.
