Anthrax – Return Of The Killer A’s

Album information
This is a compilation album of Anthrax, it includes songs from the bands past and present status and it describes the band well in its progress and such. The songs are selected from fans and other people that like Anthrax but the mix of songs is a disappointment. There are many songs that should have been on this record and many songs that already are on the record should not be there.

The line up is from the classic when Belladonna and other members were in the band and there is the new line up with the new singer John Bush from Armored Saint. And of course Scott and Charlie are included to.

Track Information

Bring The Noise
This song is performed with Anthrax and Public Enemy, according to the band this was a great experience to mix metal with hip-hop but I think it was a disgrace to metal. Metal should be metal and nothing else, anyway the song has classic riffing which is typical to Anthrax. The chorus might be a good one because of the heaviness. 2.5/5

Only
This song is great because of it moderate tempo and drumming and strong vocals from John. James Hetfield from Metallica once said that this was a perfect song and I can’t do anything but to agree. 5/5

Potters Field (Hypo Luxa Hermes Pan Remix)
A start with brutal riffing and gets heavier as it goes, the vocals is mixed so it sounds like it is record from a speaker. A chunky and heavy song which sounds like old Anthrax but the vocals lowers the rating. 3/5

Ball Of Confusion
The bass line in this song is written and played by Anthrax first bassist Danny Lilker. One more thing that makes this song a bit special is the former singer Joey Belladonna and John Bush are singing together. Sounds like the real Anthrax with Belladonnas vocals. The song is slow and bumpy and sounds good. 4/5

Crush
Starts with fast brutal riffing which will be the main riff in this song, but the structure of the song are bad. The lyrics are about when you got a crush on someone, that you have to kill the person so bad because of your love. Anyway, the lyrics are trash and the song is bad. 2.5/5

Room For One More
A low bass, moderate drumming and low guitar riffs is the theme of the song. John does a good job on this song and the song does sound great. The melody and groove sound makes this song interesting cool. 5/5

Inside Out
The song with slow melodic acoustics and later turn into slow and heavy riffing. This reminds you of Pantera’s style of music. ¨I’ve eaten from the insane root that imprisons reasons¨, the song is heavy in general but the lyric are horrible and so is for the solo. This song could have been better. 3/5

Hy Pro Glo (Hyp Pro Luxa Mix)
A bumpy song that starts with a man greets you with a fraise. The chorus is catchy but the rest of the song is like bumpy like an off-road track. This mix is not a good one with its annoying noises in the background but that’s just me. 2.5/5

Fueled
This song is an ode to this guy, Charles Bukowski. The song is non-stop metal, it is fast and the drums are great in this song and same for the bass. One of the best songs on this album though. 5/5

Among The Living
From one of Anthrax’s most well-known albums Among The Living. A heavy song which was inspired by Stephen Kings book The Stand, especially the lyrics. This song kicks *** and is a true Anthrax classic. 4.5/5

Got The Time
Frank Bello opens this cover with some cool-sounding bass lines. The song is fast in its tempo and lyrics but the thing that makes this song great is Frank’s bass playing. Bass players should listen to this because it rocks. 5/5

Indians
This is also a known song from Among The Living, starts with ¨Indian¨ sounding drums and has a smart riff line. The song is about the white man taking land from the Indians. Classic Anthrax that’s what this song is. 5/5

Antisocial
This is a cover song from a French band named Trust, this song sounds great though. Shredding riffs and a clear bass plus great lyrics, the song has a moderate tempo and is very catchy to the listener. 5/5

I’m The Man (censured version)
As I said before that metal and hip-hop was crap but this song does sound cool except that this version is censured. The verse has have riffs but it is not much instrumental fragments in the song. Smart lyrics but is sometimes weird, good song actually. 4/5

Madhouse
The song starts with a nurse switching papers and there are sounds of electricity in the background. This song was one of the bands first hits from a major label. The lyrics are about a person which suffers from a mental disorder and is place on a mental hospital. 4/5

I Am The Law
This song was inspired by the movie Judge Dredd, but the song is boring to me. It may be one of their famous songs but not to me. The song is chunky and it is about Judge Dredd and who he is. 3/5

Metal Thrashing Mad
This is true Anthrax material, the fast tempo, smart lyrics and melody makes this song perfect. The song is about driving a muscle-car, ¨racing down the road in a street machine of steel¨.
Joey’s vocals sure is great in this song and it disserves: 5/5

Oh, this review became very long I see now but I hope it is good enough. This compilation may be a disappointment to Anthrax fans because of the lack of songs. I think that this album could have been better if there was more songs from their past but everyone have different taste I guess. This is an album that must not buy so the final rating will be: 3.5/5

I LIKE this album...

It was my first experience with Anthrax...

Bring The Noise is excellent...simply because it's rap and metal doesn't automatically make it crap. In fact, that's one of the only examples of GOOD rap metal mixing.

Crush has an awesome driving feel to it...thats the song that got me into Anthrax.

This at least warrants a four...while there's some bad stuff on here, there's awesome stuff as well.

I quite enjoyed the album, it had plenty of enjoyable songs. And by the way, Bring the Noise was the most entertaining track on the album.

I have only heard bring the noise which IMO is a quite annoying song. I wouldnt go as far as saying mixing Hip-Hop with metal is a disgrace because its a cool experiment. Its good to try new things like that.

Yeah, loosen up your stinkhole. Be more open minded.

Pretty good review, but ditch the track-by-track. It helps. This Message Edited On 10.03.05

well I hate hip-hop, pop, techno, NU-metal, punk and other lame stuff that is played everywhere nowadays. Old-school thrash metal from the 80's and forward is my style and that is what I want to be played, but that's just me.

Hey to each his own man. Personally I think alot of music nowadays is quite lame as Deathtrasher said. But my muscial taste is not only limited to thrash or metal for that matter.

Some newer music is lame, but you have to dig deeper than the mainstream.

And by punk, I hope you're saying pop-punk.

No I dislike almost every types of music. Just a few songs here and there may be interesting to me, but that is rare as snow in the summer.

I think it´s important to listen to more kinds of metal. It doens´t matter what type just fucking great metal. There are so much great bands. Check out Iced Earth, Bullet For My Valentine or Soulfy.

This is a terrible review. I understand what you are saying well enough, but simply stating that "metal should never be mixed with any other genre" is both naive and stupid. Metal is a versatile beast. It mixes with progressive and become Voidvod. It mixes with synthesizers and becomes Alestorm. It mixes with country and becomes Molly Hatchet. And yes, it also mixes with rap. You are entitled to your opinions, but PLEASE don't make a comment as idiotic as "metal cannot be mixed."

Aside from that, your grammar was bad, your spelling was bad, and the entire layout of the review was bad. There are no redeeming qualities for this review.

I love it that Al Jourgensen remixed Hy Pro Glo and Potters Field. Gives the songs a slight industrial touch...
