1 of 4 thought this review was well written

System Of A Down are probably the most inventive band on the planet in the current metal scene. The combined lyrical skills of Serj Tankina and Daron Malakian is great on every album SOAD put out. This, their fourth effort, is probably the most majestic and surprising and there are a lot of experimental elements. Here is the review then.

What Is Good About the Album?

There are several good things to come out of 'Mezmerize'. The madcap vocals are still present as are the intersesting ideas and politically fuellded punk mayhem. They have mixed a hell of a lot of different musical influences into this record and there are several diverse moments. @cigaro' in particular features some humourous vocals and solid guitar and 'B.Y.O.B' sounds like a recording performed my mentalists. Throughout the record, Daron's voice can be heard and I can safely say that he has an incredibly original voice. Lyrically, both Serj and Daropn have matured on this album which is either a good thing or a bad thing, depedning on what you prefer. Also, there are not as many expletives as on previous SOAD albums (such as their original) but that doesn't particularly matter. Also, both singles feature and if you want some completely original SOAD just listen to 'Radio/Video'. 'Revenga' is a masterpiece and features an awesome solo and 'Lost In Hollywood' features Daron's most mature lyrics to date.

What Was Not So Good About The Album?

Whilst there are no actual filler tracks on the album, there is the odd track or two which don't live up to what they could be. 'Old School Hollywood' really riles me but after several listens it is likely to grow on you.'Question!?' is also a bit annoying after just one or two listens but it will probably sound better the more you listen. Other than that, there is not too much actually wrong with the album and any problems are definitely minor ones.

Why Buy?

Because it is original, creative and completely insane at several points.

This is one of the albums we do NOT need any more reviews of, that is unless you're saying something completely negative about it.

But apart from that, good job. Revenga and Violent Pornography do it for me.

No more news on Hypnotize just yet......

SOAD are not that original or creative. Aside from having two singers who constantly harmonize their vocals or bark like dogs, they are like every other hard rock band out there.

I like the song Old School Hollywood. One thing I don't like about this album. Daron sings too much. They're pretty much a dual vocalist band now, even though Serj is much better. So either Daron should sing much less or Serj should pick up a guitar too. I know he can play.
