01. Around The World (3:56)
I Don't think god himself could think of a better track to start off on of the most memorable albums ever written. This Tracks Shows their more Punk-Funk Style that they have been known for since '83. This Song was meant to get you up off your feet and jumping. And it does just that the song is fast, funky, and beautiful. With a melodic chorus sung by the one and only Anthony Kiedis with back-up vocals by John Frusciante. John Frusciante Funk Style Guitar riffs come out in this song and gives a new meaning to Funk Guitarist. Do you want to know why Michael Balzery a.k.a Flea is the best bassist since John Entwistle? This Track shows you how amazing Flea is on bass. This show us why Chad Smith is a Great drummer and why he remains one of the best drummers out there today. This song was a hit and became a classic shortly after the album was released.
Rating: 4/5

02. Parallel Universe (4:28)
Dark, Depressing, and one of the Many Lyrical Masterpieces Anthony Kiedis has written on this album. With the Intro of a muted guitar played by the one and only John Frusciante and quick fingers of Flea on bass bring dark mood to the song that will be held throughout the album. Anthony Kiedis is a lyrical genius and that is proven in this song. Throughout the whole you feel a sense of urgency and intensity, There is also a feeling of losing one's self to this "Parallel Universe". The Chorus "Christ I'm a sidewinder Imma California King.." brings all the feelings in this song to new heights and brings you to a point of almost losing control. And when the solo hits you feel the intensity and urgency let go and you lose control and then suddenly its over. The Song is technically magnificent with unique structure and a bass line like no other. This song shows you a newer more depressing Red hot Chili Peppers rather than fun-loving energetic funky Chili Peppers.
Rating: 4.5/5

03. Scar Tissue (3:35)
One of the More Beautiful and yet Depressing Songs on the album. The Beginning lyrics are "Scar Tissue that I Wish You saw.." which means that he wishes you could see his pain. Anthony's Lyrics talk about things he has seen, things that scar people and that make him upset. He talks teenage prostitutes, suicide, abusive relationships. In the Chorus the Lyrics " With the Birds I'll Share this lonely view.." which he is saying "I am alone in witnessing these tragic events." The Guitar in the song is truly beautiful, brings a sense of hope in these scared times. The Guitar symbolizes how they will push through the hard times and keep on going. The Solo's are fantastically fast either they are just pretty and slow and give the song a sad yet hopeful feeling. The Structure of this song is truly unique, Verse-Chorus-Verse-Chorus-Solo-Verse-Chorus-Verse-Chorus-Solo-Verse-Chorus-Solo. This Song was the First hit off the album and is now one of the most classic and well known Red Hot Chili Pepper songs.
5/5

04. Otherside (4:13)
The Most Depressing and suicidal song on the album. The Lyrics are again a Lyrical Masterpiece and Anthony's vocals Truly Come through here. On this Song Anthony Proves that his voice is truly amazing, this song is vocally the best song on the record. Anthony Hits These notes that bring you to this point of relaxed depression and with john on the backup-vocals he gives you the feel of urgency and intensity. The Guitar puts the dark and depressing mood into the song with the simple riff at the beginning by John Frusciante. Chad is a genius on the drums in this song and brings the song intensity level up after each chorus until the bridge is reached were you feel the intensity peaking. With the Guitars raging and bass and drums bringing the intensity level higher and higher, when that solo hits you feel the pain of the song. And With the Last Chorus your emotions have taken over and you feel like you've lost control with a raging guitar in the back and lead Vocals of Anthony and Backup vocals by John song ends with a cry for help.
5/5

05. Get On Top (3:16)
This Song is really a Funky song. It brings you Back to Blood Sugar Sex Magik Days. The Song is fast and fun it makes you energetic and want to jump around and playing air guitar. Anthony's lyrics are still truly very amazing on this track and Flea and Frusciante's Bass and Guitar Playing is Regular Chili Pepper Greatness. There’s Nothing really that Spectacular on this track it’s a great track to listen to.
4/5

06. Californication (5:19)
This Has to be one of the most famous songs, the guitar and bass come in and you know the song. This is where Anthony's Lyrics Really Shine in this song he ***ing made up his own word "Californication". Some of These brilliant lines in the song are, "Pay Your Surgeon very Well To escape The Spell Of Aging Celebrity Skin is this your chin or is that what you’re waging....", "..A Teenage Bride With a Baby inside getting high on Information..", "..And Alderon's Not Far Away its californication..", "...Everybody’s been there and I don't mean on vacation, first born unicorn hardcore soft ****...", "Destruction Leads to a very rough road but it also breeds creation.." These are just some of the lines that were written in this Lyrical Masterpiece, As song writers we all dream to write a song like this song is lyrically and instrumentally perfect. John Frusciante shows that he can play the guitar in a different style rather than the funky riffs that everyone puts him in. Flea uses the bass as a instrument rather than just a back up beat, and Chad uses this military drum beat that fits this song perfectly. The song is dark and depressing and shows us how ***ed up the world we live in is. This is one of the biggest hits off this album and probably one of their biggest hits.
5/5

07. Easily (3:49)
Very Fast paced song with interesting lyrics. The song initially may sound uplifting but when you hear the lyrics you realize it’s a very upsetting song. this song is nothing really fantastic in the musical department has a modern funk feeling to the song. But Lyrically it’s another brilliant piece of work. Anybody who likes to dissect lyrics this song is for you a lot of lyrical metaphors and ideas that can mean many things. Very Fast Paced and yet depressing song.
4/5

08. Porcelain (2:41)
This is considered by many the worst on the album. But its not if you actually listen, it may be slow and dragging but the guitar and bass are really excellent in this song and Kiedis's Voice really shines in this song as he shows he can have a softer voice. But The Song does drag and put you to sleep after a while. Lyrically the song is very good in that sense but that’s probably the high point of the song.
2.5/5

09. Emit Remmus (3:58)
This Song is very good another chili pepper classic. The lyrics are fantastic very metaphoric, the bass and drums are excellent as well. My only problem with this song is the guitar in reverse it gets to me after awhile. The Bass makes up for the guitar but the guitar is too high and whiney and is irritating after a while. Otherwise good chili pepper classic.
3.5/5

10. I Like Dirt (2:35)
If I had to describe this Song with one word that word would be Funk. The song is another flashback to BSSM days the guitar comes through as exciting and really gives you a great feel to the song. The solo is fast and loud and kicks you awake from the last 2 songs which were kind of slow. this Song Definitely shows you that yes Funk is Good. Funk By the Red Hot Chili Peppers equals pure beauty.
4.5/5

11. This Velvet Glove (3:43)
This Song is My Favorite Song on The album. It has a beautiful guitar in it with the acoustic guitar in the back and lead guitar in front that gives you some funk and yet some depressing sounds. Lyrically it’s another brilliant masterpiece by Kiedis. Flea's Bass and Chad Drums are no push over either, Very Energetic and Uplifting yet Dark and Depressing at the same time. This Song Has Everything you want in a song all rolled into one with a Modern funk thrown in.
5/5

12. Savior (4:50)
Very depressing song, But you can tell it sort of Drags On From the Beginning. I Find myself wishing the song would Just end quickly its musically and lyrically good but it drags and puts you to sleep. Personally this Track is one of the songs that could be a b-side instead of on the album.
2.5/5

13. Purple Stain (4:11)
Funky Fresh is all I Have to say this song is fun and the lyrics are very funny if you listen. After The Last Song it wakes you up and gives you the BSSM feeling all over again. One Of the more funky songs on the album. John's Guitar and Flea's Bass bring the song to life and make you want to jump around. The Solo is fantastic for this sort of song the bass and guitar really pick up the feeling of this song and peak it like every good guitar solo is supposed to do. And Just As The Song Peaks It’s Over 4.5/5

14. Right On Time (1:50)
This Is The last of The Funky songs on the album. If this Song was on Blood Sugar Sex Magik it would've fit right in. Very Funky and Fun. The Lyrics are again very good and sometimes funny. Bass is My Favorite in this song its fast and uplifting almost. And Frusciante's back up vocals give the song it final piece.
4/5

15. Road Trippin' (3:25)
This Is Their Acoustic masterpiece. Very Lyrically and Musically Brilliant. John and Anthony's Vocals almost make you cry. The Acoustic Bass and Guitar Give you so much sadness and depression. The song is A perfect way to end a perfect album. They Album feels like a journey and this song makes you feel like you've just finished a amazing journey. The Orchestra in the back bring another sense of brilliance and beauty.
5/5

I took your opening title and line things out from the top of the review as they make the homepage of the site look messy and the admin doesn't want that. Hope you don't mind. Good review, anyway. A really great comeback album.

You don't really need the title at the top. It muddies up the featured box on the front page, and is rather uneccessary, seeing as the title's at the top of the page, anyway.

"This is where Anthony's Lyrics Really Shine in this song he ***ing made up his own word "Californication" "

I actually think "Californication" was coined before Kiedis used it as the title. I simply say this because my parents know the word and they have never heard the song "Californication".

It means a lifestyle consisting of the stereotypical Californian essentials. Think Hollywood.

Great album, but I disagree with your rating on "Right On Time". I'd say it's the worst on the album, because it's complete filler. The guitar's okay, but Anthony isn't a lyrical genius compared to the rest of the songs on Californication.

So-So review. Dont worry, I have my reasoning.

It seems like in the beginning, you were way into the review, but then you got lazy, and reduced the track info on each song.

And I would have liked to see an intro and conclusion as well.

The beginning was good though. This Message Edited On 11.10.05
