Review Summary: Seriously. This is a lot of fun.
6 of 8 thought this review was well writtenThere is always a time when you just want to hear a simple, straight forward hard rock album that can make for some flippin’ fun driving music. Yeah, I pretty much painted a perfect picture for Andrew W.K.’s album I Get Wet. Really, not much can be said about I Get Wet other than it being a concise, hard hitting collection of some pretty pumped up songs, but I suppose it’s my duty to elaborate on such a vague description.
Just by looking at the names of these songs you can pretty much tell how it’s going to sound. I mean, “Party ‘Till You Puke”? “Fun Night”? “Party Hard”? They really are not trying to fool anyone. Just about every song is laden with heavy power chords, driving, drunken bar piano lines and Andrew’s aggressive, raw yet refined vocal delivery. Somehow though, they manage to avoid making one big blur of a jock rock album to listen to while having a bro sesh with your bromosapiens during a bro-filled weekend… bro. Each song has its own distinct melody, quirkiness and gang vocal driven chorus that is nearly impossible not to tap your foot and sing along to (see Got To Do It and She Is Beautiful). With all these elements, this album really comes off as a purely aggressive, dense, raw, but well invited punch in the face. This sound really separates it from your average hard rock album that too often becomes bogged down by boring ballads that tend to drag the listener through it.
The real beauty of this album, however, is its length. Each song is under 4 minutes and the total play time is about 35 minutes. As truly enjoyable as this sound is, I can’t imagine enjoying it for much more than that amount of time. If you are looking for a fun album and are willing to spare depth and meaning for mounds of fun and a blissfully good time, you will enjoy this. However, if you’re hesitant to get this in fear of losing your indie cred, you should probably reconsider why you listen to music.
