Review Summary: With Innocence and Instinct, Red have crafted the most important Christian, maybe even secular, album of this decade. Be ready for an experience not delivered by any band left today.
What happened after the New-Metal phase? Did bands think it couldn't be crafted and shaped into a more mature sounding piece of art? Red believes that it can delivering their second studio album which boasts everything we who loved our Linkin Park came to love. It was a sad day the hour 'Minutes To Midnight' was released simply because it marked the end of an era, what was pretty much the creator of their genre we watched a titan fall. There was nobody to grab the realms and direct those who were still left aching for a solid release by a band who knew how to harken that animostic sound. 'innocence and Instinct' is just what the radio needs to rebirth that of the New-Metal phase.
The album starts with "Fight Inside" pretty goo song to start it all off things off with. Rambunctious intro of all the instruments clashing together it almost sounds like it'll bridge into metalcore, which shows the range this band is willing extend for. Barnes' voice is like that sent from heaven just the right amount of melodic with heavy angry shouts to back up all the forceful parts. Barnes' is a true sucessor to Bennington as he weilds the band around his voice. - 5/5
"Death of Me" comes a rockin in with its cool tech-y vocal effects and psychedlic groove riff kinda. Everyone is on their game here especially drummer Hayden Lamb who isn't even a credited member of the band but still produces good things. You can tell by some of the style changes the band is clearly a group of geniuses. - 4.5/5
The first slow-y song of the album "Mystery of you" has still got its fare share of heaviness. Its got cool scratch things going in the background its a pretty cool song so far the weakest to be heard, but that's kind a of an understatement since its amazing still still it is kinda boring after like 2 or 3 listens. - 3/5
"Start Again" is just a beautiful song. - 3.5/5
My second favorite song on this album is "Never Be the Same" because of its perfect verses of nice acoustic guitars and a piano that can just barely be heard. It's definitely better than the last song. And it. It starts the climb to the better half of the album. - 5/5
This song it brutal and shows the metal side of Red. "Confessions" is just like Transformers 2 its pure action and its what we all want. It doesn't start once it stops. My favorite part of this song is the screamed outro which shows that Barnes' might even be a better singer than Chester. Who woulda thunk it? - 5/5
"Shadows" sounds like a song Chevelle would do but here's the catcher it sounds better. Its heavy and then its not and then it is, and its just so crazy the way it switches up the tempo and beats. The drumming is again phenomenal but what really does it here are the guitars. The chorus is perfect its sings about everything that people go through, "There's a hate inside of me like some kind of master I tried to save you but I can't find the answer I'm holding onto you I'll never let go I need you with me as I enter the Shadows." And there's some cool "Ahhhs" in the background. - 4.5/5
"Ordinary World" is a Duran Duran cover I think, anyway I wish they wouldn't have done a cover because it took them forever to make this album and then they don't even release their own material wtf is that about? Anyway sorry about that short rant, its ok I heard its better than the original so that's great but I just can't get over how its not their own song, so it gets a bad rating. - 1/5
"Out From Under" thankfully delivers after the horrible slip up of a song that wasn't even theirs and is aggressive and heavy but doesn't over do it kinda like "Faint" ya know? Barnes is screaming almost death growls and its really scary the first time you'll hear it but after listening to it like 4 or 5 times you'll adjust I did at least. - 4.5/5
A beautiful way to close out the most important album of the decade is with the most original acoustic performance I've ever heard. There's like death whispers which would be the equivalent of death growls I guess. It's so good because it really showcases the power in Barnes' voice. He hits some pretty impressive highs and eerie sounding lows. Really good way to close out the album. - 4/5
So there you have it the reason why this is probably the most important album of the decade is because its been released by a band who isn't afraid to spread a message. They are able to recapture all that New-Metal fire and final deliver something worth listening to. It's a very beautiful progression by a band that already sounded solid. They know how to incorporate all of their influences sounding poppy sometimes and then down right metal the next you never hear this kind of stuff in music anymore and its why RED have released an album to be heard by everyone.
