Review Summary: Progression? I see no Progression. Sure they are more technical but I was really lookin for them to start thinking outside the box
Well...certainly not progressive as they had put it. But it does have a very very subtle change in tempo and aggresiveness. For Instance the Opening track is probably one of the most energetic songs they have ever written. With a Chugging main riff and a catchy somewhat original Chorus. It repeats quite a bit but this is one of those cases where i just dont mind to much. This Track also serves as one of the rare Solo appearances for KSE, and its not to shabby at that.
The only way to describe this next track is Mainstream. Plain and simple. It has its few catchy moments, but other then that this song just isnt too great. Instrumentally its run of the mill, though we did get a little drum solo by justin which sounded cool. The Forgotten sounds like a typical KSE song, galloping verses and catchy chorus's. But once again i just cant not like it. Reckoning is the first song they released and when I first heard it i really liked it. Even to this point at its 2:43 runtime its one of my faves off this album cuz its unrelenting on the drums and I personally think Jones is on top here. Of course this song also follows same song structure.
The Return is the ballad, if you will, of the album, and its a a pretty average one at that. No instruments stand out and its a standard Jones performance. The song is about the tempo of Desperate Times, except this song is slightly better. At This point im getting tired of the routine chugging riffs on every song.
A Light In A Darkened World is similar to End of heartache in catchiness. Also again with the same song structure. Im beginning to think these guys have no imagination as almost every song seems to have a moment of sudden softness and emotional singing. Though I will say i enjoyed this one. Take Me Away begins with very a technical guitar riff and pounding drums until it comes to a hault for emotional ballad singing. It gradually takes you back up for another catchy chorus and before you know it it slows again. It continues in this fashion till the end. One of the more enjoyable songs for me.
I Would Do Anything fades in and at first It sounded like it would be another identical song. But it turned out too have one of my favourite riffs on the album. The main riff in the verses is amazingly catchy and i give them props for it. Then the chorus hits and its much of the same however it doesnt take away from the song.
It is getting harder to review this as All the songs have the exact same structure and instrumental talent.
Save me is a dispensible song in my opinion. I dont find anything in it as the singing is typical as well as all the instruments, though feel free to give it a listen as you might enjoy it anyway because its not necessarily a bad song. Lost is an interesting case as it does indeed follow the same pattern yet it sounds like it doesnt to me. Its highly enjoyable to me as it has a slower tempo and a galloping beat. Not bad at all.
This Is Goodbye starts with a slow fade in and you soon begin to here the unrelenting riff thats about to explode onto you. One of my faves off this album because it has my favourite chorus from the album as it sticks out in a way due to the ultra melodic nature of it. In terms of an album closer, why not put it last. The track order would not have mattered here as they are all basically identical. The few lines in the Chorus of This is Goodbye are a good way to describe this album from me
"Its Over! Please Lay Me To Rest!"
