Review Summary: An extremely enjoyable ride. Distinctive and fun, but leaves you screaming for more. This is worth a listen.

There's a type of regret I get when I listen to bands that should have been big. Ones that had something incredible, unique, and could have gotten them places. Most are young and inexperienced, either not getting signed or getting signed to the wrong kind of labels. It's with regret, that I label Royden as one of these bands. Hailing from Wharton, New Jersey, these young rockers released their first EP and got the wheels rolling for what could have been a great career. Although cut short by a bad record deal, they have left evidence in their wake that they had the chops to be a great, sucessful band.

The whole deal gets started with a great opener that gets you right into their musical alley. The different styles they play in are very prominent. From punkish to emo, they have it all, and compose it very well. As EPs usually go, the songs are each memorable and well composed, switching between distinctive sections and making each song feel purposeful. No song sticks to one specific sound of feel. Don't expect to be plagued by alt-rock fillers or by people tapping into their 'experimental' side by playing with pre-made loops. There's no pointless "I'M SO INDIE" sections, as whatever they play they keep it all natural. Each song is easy to swallow, flows well, and is enjoyable.

The guitarists playing is a highlight for this album. It's not overly technical or jaw-dropping, but it's quite distinctive. Chord progressions backed by acoustic counterparts, little diddles thrown in here and there, it's all enjoyable and above all else: it flows. Bass is pretty much a no-show on this album, and drums take a back seat position. The drummer keeps it simple but interesting, and usually works to keep holding down the fort. The vocalist doesn't rely on being pitch perfect to be great. His voice doesn't fit in any specific genre, and having a unique vocalist is almost a requirement to stand out in music in todays scene. With an energetic voice plus the occasional scream/yell he makes the bands unique sound complete. The vocals work with the music perfectly to make it flow.

In short, this album is a great, energetic Alternative ride. Unfortunately, as an EP, it will leave you wanting more. In this first release, they show their potential as musicians and songwriters. Complex and multifaceted, but enjoyable all the same. A great addition to anyones collection.

There's not much point going into track details, as it switches styles alot. Not the best review, but don't let that stop you from giving these kids a listen.

I loved this CD. I was really sad when they broke up. They're really nice guys, and it's sad to listen to the CD and know that they're not making music anymore...

Doolittle Raids is my favourite song.
