I sometimes find melodic death metal quite annoying, especially when I find bands that released albums in the 90's. The greater bands like
In Flames and
Dark Tranquillity has of course their own style but if you look at the other ''lesser'' bands you will notice that all of them sounds almost identical to each other. I got tired of listening to these horrible melodic death metal attempts and started to search for something different, at least something from another country. I suddenly stumbled upon a band from Italy, the band was called
Adimiron and the only album that I found was their debut album
Burning Souls. I expected some half-measured
In Flames clone but I was wrong.
Adimiron was energetic as hell, this band knew how to play really tight melodic death metal. This band mixes frantic death metal with fast melodic picking patterns and the vocalist has an insane harsh scream. I finally found an album that stood out from the crowd!
Burning Souls has no particular influences from the Gothenburg genre or the Swedish metal scene and that's why the album sounds so good.
Adimiron thrashes all over the place their melodic death metal and they do it with ease. The guitar performance has a great deal of technical and fast picked riff lines, like
Cold Anxiety for example, those shredds are tight! All the drum patterns are pretty neat as well, they basically follow the guitar melodies and they don't rush away in any strange direction. There are some blast-beats here and there; there are lots of rattling pedal work and other kinds of catchy and intense drum parts.
Adimiron has a very good vocalist as well, he is not exactly gifted but his deep growls and intense screams sounds very good to the ferocious music. The track variety in this album is quite poor actually, the only track that actually stands out because of its overall song structure is the memorial track
Suffering Voices. It is an instrumental track dedicated to their lost ones, friends, and relatives and such. The rest of the tracks are moulded in the same shape unfortunately. It is not necessarily a bad thing but the album gets a bit boring with time since all tracks are hyper speeded chunks of melodic death metal.
There is not much more to say about
Burning Souls actually. The album doesn't suffer from any bigger flaws except from the fact that the music can get a bit boring because of the lack of song variety. But this is nothing like your regular melodic death metal, I promise that I have never heard a band that plays this tight and fast as
Adimiron does.
Burning Souls is all about energy, speed, technique and ferocity, all in one package. People who enjoy speeded death metal and of course melodic death metal should grab some music from
Adimiron, I'm pretty sure that you will be satisfied.
Positives
