Okay, well for all you SEA fans outraged at my 2.5, it comes from my personal dislike of the band and for the reasons that actually matter, this is criticism for God's sake. A mediocre hardcore act which not suprisingly be signed to a label like Rise Records manages to sign to Equal Vision Records and they put out their self titled sophmore album. Two words to start this review off: Oh No. I will start with Jerry, I could go on about every member of this band being total conceited jerks but Im reviewing the music, not them. Anyways, Jerry, his scream is more of a raspy yell, sounding painful but in yet descent. Remember, a scream nothing but noise going over the music if you think about it. One of the things that bugs me the most is how the clean vocals are obviously auto-tuned on the album to correct the pitches and to a point where they try to make it not noticeable his voice is auto tuned. Even though it corrects the pitches, the singing is unbearable. You can experience that when you see them live for yourself. The song " World Between Us" features the most singing, and is also because of that, the song I dislike the most by them.
Onto the guitars, Zack Ordway changes up his styles completely different from his shredding days in "In Theory". Nowhere near as skillfull as his guitar parts where in In Theory, the guitars are fast, choppy and random, that's SEA's overall sound though. The breakdowns are very choppy and off-beat, which at times I do like.
I cant say much about Lee other than he matches Zack's guitar playing very well, just almost playing the same metalcore, fast, choppy riff.
Johno delivers some complex bass lines intertwining the samples and drums, which I think is interesting.
Kenny Schnick is a very skillful drummer who shows is talent among his band, his fast, off beat licks (just like Johno's bass lines) intertwine the sample beats and is very impressive live. Which brings me the best thing about this band and what I truely appreciate them for. They play their whole live set to a metronome pretty much, they hit play on the laptop and have to keep up with the samples, which is pretty tough.
The sample effects differ from the ones used in "Everything Perfect on The Wrong Day". They are used less and are more of an industrial sound rather the electronica sound on "EPOTWD".
Finally, I say the best song on the album, also the only song off this album on y Ipod, is "Disconnected". It is catchy, and it sounds like the end of the world. Coooool. Okay so all you pissed of scene kids come and get me!
