Primus - "Sailing the Seas of Cheese"
Primus started out in the 90's and in 1993 their album Pork Soda went multi-platinum. Afterwards, they went downhill, despite making some really awesome albums, and are now only famous for writing the South Park theme song. But what happened before Pork Soda? There was Frizzle Fry and Sailing the Seas of Cheese. Because there's already a review for Frizzle Fry, I chose the latter of the two. Primus might be the weirdest band I like, but Les Claypool is the best bassist to have existed.
Tracklisting:
01. Seas of Cheese - Just a short fourty-two second song to introduce the album.
02. Here Come the Bastards - I don't know who the bastards are, but I'm sure this song is referring to Primus themselves. It's a longer introductory song that comes after the short introductory song. This track on the album is most likely to get stuck in your head with how catchy the lyrics and the guitar are. The lyrics don't make sense, yet that's typical of Primus.
03. Sgt. Baker - Not sure who Sgt. Baker is either. However, I know he's a real sargeant in war history. This is one of Primus' best songs to do live. Suprises you near the end.
04. American Life - In my opinion, it's the worst song on the album, but that's only because it progresses slower than the other songs and I kinda don't like it when Primus write slow songs. This track is good for the lyrics though.
05. Jerry Was A Race Car Driver - Other than "My Name Is Mud" and "Wynona's Big Brown Beaver", this is a song that everyone who knows Primus has heard. The best song to mosh to on this album with how the guitar gets you jumping. The video fits well with the song.
06. Eleven - They should've put this song on Track 11 with a name like that. The track's called "Eleven" because the time signature is 11/8. The album's most unique song. Kind of has a Reggae element to it.
07. Is It Luck? - The album's funniest track. Les Claypool just asks a random question and says "Is it luck?", then gets to the chorus where he sings that phrase over and over again. One of those songs in which Primus make fun of themselves.
08. Grandad's Little Ditty - A thirty-seven second skit involving a guy singing in the shower. Nothing much to describe this track.
09. Tommy the Cat - The first song I've heard from Primus and it was so good it got me into buying this album. Tom Waits does the voice of Tommy the Cat, telling the story about himself getting a female cat in O'Malley's Alley. Shows the best work on the bass and I really like the part near the end when Les goes "Say baby do you wanna lay down with me...". Good video too. Les Claypool makes a crazy bartender.
10. Sathington Waltz - One of Primus' short instrumental tracks. They make the best instrumentals in my opinion.
11. Those Damned Blue Collar Tweekers - If you don't know what a tweeker is, it's a person who's high on aphetamine. This is a song about tweekers running an entire town and I like the wah effects at the beginning and the end of the song as well as how the music flows. A song that's definitely a must listen.
12. Fish On (Fisherman's Chronicles, Chapter II) - This is a sequel to "John the Fisherman" off of Frizzle Fry. Les Claypool wrote the Fisherman's Chronicles, because fishing is Les' favourite sport. In fact, he talks about himself fishing in this song, catching a sturgeon. It's the longest track on this album and gets boring after a while, but it's a good track to put near the end of the album.
13. Los Bastardos - A reprise of "Here Come the Bastards". The chorus gets sung a bunch of times and then a voice says "Shut up you bastards!", telling Primus to leave and end the whole album off.
