... This is gonna be a long one.. so lets start with disc one

The Ecstasy Of Gold: (The Good, The Bad and The Ugly)

This is a great classical song, played only by the orchestra, it was written by Ennio Morricone, off the Good the Bad and the Ugly soundtrack.... 4/5
the perfect intro song

The Call Of Ktulu: (Ride The Lightning)

This song sounded really great on the "Ride the Lightning" album, and it sounds better on this, with the Orchestra playing back up which made it sound twice as good... and Jason Newsted was playing the bass a bit different too. 5/5

Master Of Puppets: (...Master Of Puppets)

What can i say? this song is one of Metallica's best, it sounds good, especially with the orchestra doing hard slides, the singing isn't exactly like the album, it's pretty good though, with the crowd singing "Master" in the chorus... the interlude sounds good too, Kirk and James played the same notes which widen the sound range... 5/5

Of Wolf(gang) and Man: (Black)

They changed the name because of the Orchestra (get it?) this song sounds alright on the "Black" record, and it sounds alright on this album... the solo is the same, so are the vocals, and of course the orchestra has raised the score... but the thing that made this song better was after the solo when Jason asked "got any wolves out there?" then made a wolf howl, great song 4.5/5

The Thing That Should Not Be: (Master Of Puppets)

Starts off with James and the Orchestra playing something that sounds like Star Wars... then it gets heavy.. the typical Metallica tuned down song, the great thing about this song were the vocals, they sound like the album "Master Of Puppets" there isn't much to say about this song... the orchestra played a bit evilly too..... this song finished with the song of death..which leads to.. 4.5/5

Fuel: (Re-Load)

This song carries on from the Death Song starting with the orchestra sliding high and Kirk was sliding to make it sound like a Car revving and changing gear, this song sounded great on the album and with the Orchestra sounds even better... instead of James saying "White Knuckle Tight" he says "Burn Muther ***er, Burn" before the solo.. 4/5

The Memory Remains: (Re-Load)

This song sounds alright i guess... wasn't one of the better songs from the concert or the album the orchestra the only good point.. besides the crowd singing "naa..na.na..naa..naaa.na.naa" 3.9/5

No Leaf Clover: (Previously Un-Released)

Now THIS is what you call a great song, it starts with the Orchestra playing the intro, then James comes in with a classical intro, which then becomes Molotic (heavy), this song is like "The Unforgivin" with a soft Chorus and heavy Verse, the solo sounds great too, as it says, this song is previously un-released, even more of a reason to buy this album, BEWARE JAMES SINGS VERY HIGH AT THE END 5/5

Hero Of The Day: (Load)

This is one of Metallica's slow songs.. great and it's kinda sad, the Orchestra makes it sound great, playing classical, and Kirk is using a "Clean" tone rather then a "Distortion" tone, great solo, this song deserves. 4/5

Devil's Dance: (Re-Load)

I don't really like this song on either albums, it's just something about them... you can barely hear Jason in the intro because of the orchestra...
3/5

Bleeding Me: (Load)

Great song, from the load album, like hero of the day, the Orchestra makes this sound a heap better... its a slow song.. but becomes medium speed..
3.5/5

INTERLUDE... geee... what a long night it must have been...

Disc 2

Nothing Else Matters: (Black)

This was Metallica's first ever slow song, and it sounds great! James is using an Acoustic guitar instead of his electric which added a better tone, the drums and bass start at the usual time when playing live (after the first chorus), this song is also like Hero Of The Day, with the Orchestra giving a better tone to the song, the Interlude and Solo sound faster and better. 5/5

Until It Sleeps: (Load)

One of the better songs from the Load album, unlike Devil's Dance you can hear Jason in the intro, the Vocals sound a lot better then on Load... and i think about 5tempo faster, great song. 4/5

For Whom The Bell Tolls: (Ride The Lightning)

Back to the 80's this song sounds great, the Orchestra has improved this song a lot, better then album, its great. 4/5

Minus Human: (Previously Un-Released)

This song, like No Leaf Clover is only played this once, but it is slower the Sad But True, according to Jason it's a Big Fat Evil Heavy Simple Tuned Down song, it may not sound like it has a solo, but it does, the Orchestra plays the intro in this as well.. then it goes extra heavy... this is a really great song 5/5

Wherever I May Roam: (Black)

this song sounds great and the Orchestra improves it a lot, the intro sounds cool, then again, the whole song does, too bad Jason couldn't use his 12-string bass :), this deserves 4/5

Outlaw Torn: (Load)

Not many people liked this song, i didnt like it at first but i got used to it, the song doesnt have the big volume swell at the start like the album, just straight into the song, Vocals are pretty good, this song deserves a 3.9/5

James Announces they are gonna play heavy

Sad But True (Black)

This is a slow song like Minus Human, just faster, the solo sounds great and if you have the DVD Kirk uses his HUGE guitar, the vocals sound a bit.... high... but it's still good none the less... 4/5

One: (...And Justice For All)

This song is one of the best, i got a bit impatient at the start though, with battle field effects for 23 seconds, then a 30 second orchestra, but this is a great song, even better live, even better on S&M, one of the Highlights in this album 5/5

Enter Sandman: (Black)

A Great yet simple riff, the added orchestra makes it sound twice as good, but it's just like the album, (besides the wait in the middle) 5/5

Battery: (Master Of Puppets)

The final song played on this wicked album, the Orchestra plays the intro! (and it sounds better then the album) then they get to the heavy part of the song, just before the solo James says "ARE YOU ALIVE? HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE ALIVE? SHOW ME!" 5/5

god... what a long review....

Pros

-The 2 New Songs
-Better Singing
-Better song choice then normal concerts
-great song choice for the last 4 songs
-in the DVD watch Outlaw Torn, some dude does a stage dive...

Cons

-all the load and re-load songs besides Hero of the Day, fuel and Until It Sleeps...
-it was only played twice :(

Thats a great review, except for the 6/5 things. I know this is too say just how good they are. Other than that though very good indeed.

great review, the orchestra makes MetallicA sound really epic and grand, MettallicA challenged the orchestra with full-on amplification, a must own.

A masterpiece. I kind of agree with heavy metal kid on that they missed out on Kill 'Em All and some good tracks on Justice. I would definately have chosen Blackened and The Four Horsemen in front of some of the Load/Reload songs.

But no complaints. It is still fantastic.

Good review. Although, 'For whom the bell tolls' deserves a higher mark (imo). The orchestra perfectly compliments the song. It simply kicks the absolute **** out of the original. 'Outlaw Torn' is also a favourite.

I agree that 'One' has a slightly too long of an intro. But the strings catch an awesome melody to back the first solo.

And how good are the two exclusive tracks?

What a buy!!! (The CD and DVD) Yay! Epicness!

Good review. I think "No Leaf Clover" is a really good track. I think that putting in too much Load/Reload stuff and leaving out all of Kill 'em All and nearly all of ...And Justice for All was a mistake.

Im not a big fan of this. As you all said, too much load/ reloead stuff. Plus I think the symphony makes some songs not sound as good. But with most songs they do a pretty good job. Plus, I think the general idea of the symphony with the metal band was cool.

We forgive you.

This is a very good album. Probably the most impressive of the newer work. I'm glad they didn't go way overboard with the symphony like Dimmu Borgir.

Oh, this album is the works!

I love it, especially the DVD, from beginning to end. The only minor problem, as most have commented on, was too much Load/Reload stuff.

One of the songs actually ends with the end of one of the Kill 'Em All-tracks, but I can't remember which songs are involved. I think the Kill 'Em All song the "outro" is taken from is No Remorse, but I'm not 100% sure. But they should have included at least one Kill 'Em All-song, preferably The Four Horsemen.

Anyways, this concert is fantastic. A clear 5/5.This Message Edited On 09.06.05

I got this CD recently and wow, it's great. There were a few songs I would have liked to been put on here (Fade to Black, Creeping Death, Seek and Destroy), but for the most part it was a very enjoyable listen.

this is one of those things where you look at it on paper and go 'what!?!?' but when you build the damn thing, you end up smacking yourself for even doubting it. i love this album with a steaming passion. ive always loved metallica and always loved orchestral masterpieces. put the two together and you get double the love focused on a single beast, known as S&M, oddly enough. 5/5

This is an incredible cd, but yes...it would have been nice to see Fade to Black on here. After hearing this album, that song practically screams for an orchestra. Stellar disc tho, 4.5/5 from me.
