Review Summary: How many cliché's can we fit onto one recording to trick impressionable kids into buying our records? OK, in all honesty people, Winds Of Plague is NOTHING groundbreaking. It's cool and all if you like them, but they're honestly the Bleeding Through of deathcore. There is nothing "new" about throwing a piano part over a breakdown, there is nothing "original" about having synth strings in the background of this music, either. Their musicianship isn't poor, persay, but their songwriting is very sterile, it's really obvious that they aren't putting their hearts into it and they're just trying to write something that sounds, "sick."
That being said, the vocals are improved from the last album, but they're still fairly boring. The drumming's tight, but it's once more just exactly what you'd expect. The hardcore portions don't transition, the gang vocals are cliché, etc. etc. Through and through, this album is one cliché on top of another, be it symphonic metal, be it "southern" sounding tuffguy bridges, be it "brutal" breakdowns (which really don't work at all with the music they're trying to play), and on top of it all, they can't write a transition to save their lives... if you're looking for something somewhat near what they're going for, but a lot more heartfelt sounding, I suggest you look into the bands Veil Of Maya, Viatrophy, or Abigail Williams (for clearly different aspects).
Were this released four years ago, I guarentee you it'd be quite similar to "This Is Love, This Is Murderous." You will forget about Winds Of Plague within the next two years, I guarentee it. No matter how many shirts reading WINDS OF ***ING PLAGUE everybody has at shows, like the ICON warm-up pants and the As Blood Runs Black gymxshorts, they'll be replaced by something just as laughable in two years, just like the kids went from stretch pants and eyeliner to thinking they're tough.
Who knows, maybe people will get so used to getting punched in the pit that they'll just start punching one another's assholes. Maybe the next genre to be pioneered and then destroyed in minutes will be anal-fistingcore.

| | | Wow. This seems more like a pissed off rant than a review to be quite honest.

There's a difference between being pissed off and saying something's mediocre and cliché-d, I'm trying to draw attention away from a bad band that doesn't deserve it.
It's more or less in response to the fact that there's tons of kids saying that this album is less generic than anything else in the genre, when it's so much the opposite
Like, seriously, how the hell does this even come off as an angry rant. This Message Edited On 01.31.08
| | | SOUND-OFF.
| | | oh my god, a review i wrote is subject to debate over length!
| | | not really.
as a review, this sucks.
as a sound-off, this would be good.
| | | ill bulk it up a little for you
| | | by the way, i didnt neg. you're too cute with your [insertgenre]core to neg.
| | | i wasnt trying to review on the album so much as i was trying to point out that it just sucks as bluntly as i can
| | | ok
also,
Who knows, maybe people will get so used to getting punched in the pit that they'll just start punching one another's assholes.
That's hilarious.
| | | its true
| | | it sounds like an angry rant because you don't really go into much detail. it's just all "it's cliche, it's not original, it's not this, they can't do that"
should have been a sound off. :'(This Message Edited On 01.31.08
| | | no need to flip out on me there bro
| | | robots, I shall assign you a task. Write a review about something, anything, and make it as long as two pages on Word with size 12 font times new roman. You can take as long as you want, and it can be about anything, but if you do it you'll make me proud.
| | | I'm working on a serious review right now, if that's any consolation.
| | | hurrah!
| | | oh lord, its only one page long, what a shame
| | | Concise reviews are fine as far as I'm concerned.
| | | Album Rating: 2.5
Review was a little rantish but none the less you're critiques on the genre were correct.
I haven't heard this band but will do so after work, to see whats up.
| | | Solid review... its prty clear that u dont really like these guys but u still give them props and are able to recognize wat these guys are good at
but I agree... Nothing new... Just a catchy band name, sum chug, scene member names, sweepsweepsweep, thats bout it
