Release Date: 1987 | Tracklist

Helloween were a band mainly influenced on Iron Maiden but adding more speed into their music and actually inventing the Power Metal genre.. Keeper Pts 1 and 2 are the most influential Power Metal albums ever.. and Helloween are probly the most influential metal band to come out of the 80's.. This album is amazing.. Michael Kiske at age 19 sound absolutely amazing.. and guitarists Kai Hansen and Michael Weikath are so creative and amazing.. Markus adds some very good and memorable bass to the songs and Ingo is just and average drummer...

1. Initiation (Hansen) - This is just an ordinary introduction to one of the greatest power metal recordings of all time... No Rating..

2. I'm Alive (Hansen) - This song is the first Helloween track i ever heard.. and i love it.. the lyrics are a high point.. plus the solos by Hansen and harmony solos are a high point.. Michael Kiske can show that he's a great singer.. can hit some reely high notes.. this song is nothing complex but it sounds amazing.. and normally what people like about Power Metal is complexicity.. but this song doesnt have it and it still rocks.. 5/5

3. A Little Time (Kiske) - I would say this song is a grower.. at first i didnt liek it much.. i couldnt get past the first 2 minutes without skipping it.. but then i realized it wasnt so bad at all.. its just one of many Helloween great songs.. you can tell that Kiske is not such a great songwriter.. but this song is quite enjoyable.. 4.5/5

4. Twilight of the Gods (Hansen) - After reading this review you will realize that Hansen is definitely the man source of energy and songwriting in Helloween.. and its the truth.. after he left the band.. Helloween never did as good as this album.. and the pt 2.. Well this song is a true Power Metal masterpiece.. harmony solo and solos are mindblowing.. riffs are excellent.. te song is mindblowing.. Kiske sings amazingly.. This song took a detour from normal 80's metal lyrics and reely brought the Power Metal lyrics to place.. so that dozens of bands after Helloween would write lyrics about this same kind of topic.. this is one of Hansen's best songs.. 5/5

5. A Tale That Wasn't Right (Weikath) - This is a nice ballad.. even tho normally Power Metal ballads are boring and cheesy.. this one doesnt fall into thos ecategories.. it isnt mindblowing.. its just a good ballad.. with some good acoustic guitar work and a sad tone.. 4.5/5

6. Future World (Hansen) - Hmm.. Well.. this song is a good song.. good instrumental work.. with great harmony solo.. but i dont think that when people listen to this song as their first Helloween song.. would tke Helloween very seriously.. the lyrics are just tooo happy for metal.. its just.. too .. i dunno it sounds kinda cheesy.. but its stil la great song 4/5

7. Halloween (Hansen) - This is IMO the greates Power Metal song ever recorded.. going up to almost 14 minutes long this song is the single most influential song on the Power Metal genre.. this song is sooo mindblowing.. its been my favorite song since i listened to it.. nothing can ebat the power of this song.. this song captures exactly the feeling of a Halloween night.. plus a little story.. the guitar is absolutely mindblowing.. this song includes 11 solos and and amazing mindblowing harmony solo.. this song is a definitive Power Metal masterpiece.. Kai Hansen's songwriting is top notch here.. most amazing song i ever heard.. 5/5

8. Follow The Sign (Hansen/Weikath) - Just and outro to the whole album.. mindblowing.. amazing album.. just an outro No Rating

Well.... this album is rated 5/5 in my book.. theres nothing that comes between this album except for Keeper of the Seven Keys Pt 2!.. both my favorite albums ever.. hope you enjoyed the review (If i exagerated a little bit forgive me.. but this is a mindblowing album).

Keeper of the Seven Keys is a good album, but not the classic that it's hailed to be....

Halloween is one of the best power metal songs ever. Insane amount of soloing.

Did Blind Guardian cover 'I'm Alive'?

Nah. Different song, same name.

Anyways, this is a mind blowing album. Great review, we need more power metal on MX!

I posted 5 metal (-ish) reviews at once a while ago because I was sick of seeing -core and emo in all the Reviews genres. Should've saved them for now, we could've been more successful in overrunning the forum.

Good review by the way; when I saw multiple reviews I was worried they'd all be one-line, "I like this album a lot, what do you think?" reviews, but they're not, and they're well done. I listen to and really like some power metal bands, but I've got to admit that Helloween really aren't one of them.

I just don't like the music they make, but yes, I recognise what they did and the influence they've had. I just don't particularly enjoy them. It's the same thing with Stratovarius.

^^ Have you heard 'Halloween'? It's the song that got me into the band. It's got like 10 solos. It's incredible. But I like stuff like Rhapsody and Dragonforce better.

For more metal, check my Darkthrone review!

This album has grown on me. I had first heard 'I'm Alive' and 'Halloween' and loved them then I bought the CD and I wasn't that keen on the restr but I like them a lot. Unlike you peruvian I love the first two minutes of 'A Little Time'.

I'm now trying to get in Keeper of the 7 keys pt.2 because I'm not all that keen on it at the mo. Maybe I'll give it a few more listens
