As you all know, the amount of Avril fans on MX is small, and mostly among the newer members. I for one, am a fan of hers, and even going to see her when she tours in the autumn. I can say right now, that her first album is better in my opinion, but that may be slightly biased, due to the fact that I have listened to her first one more than "Under My Skin"?. I know I'm going to get lots of posts from people saying they hate her, and she's a poser, but please try to keep an open mind when reading the review.

What do I like about the album? I find the album is very catchy, with songs like "Forgotten", "My Happy Ending" and "Don't Tell Me". The opening guitar part I really like, on "Take Me Away", as well as the intro to "Freak Out". Something I've liked about Avril's albums is she uses an acoustic guitar on a lot of them, and I like this. Not many bands I listen to do this.

Lyrically, the album is a favourite of mine. An example of the lyrics on the album would be on "Who Knows": Who knows what could happen? Do what you do and keep on laughing. One thing's true - There's always a brand new day.
Most of the songs on the album, if not all, are love songs to a certain extent, as they all have something to do with a guy Avril has a soft-spot for.

The songs on the album have some similarity to those on her past album. The first single, "Don't Tell Me" is very similar to her very first single, "Complicated" for example. That doesn't mean the album is that bad. I enjoy listening to this album, but I do think she could've tried a little bit harder and thought up something original and shocking to put in the album. On the album, she has a cello, viola, and keyboards, along with the basic bass, guitar and drums.

There are some flaws on the album, and one of them would be "He Wasnt". What's wrong with this song? Her singing. She tries to take a more "punk" approach to it. It doesn't work out, to be quite honest. Many people aren't too fond of her singing, but I happen to like it. On "Together", she attempts to reach high notes in the chorus, but it brings down the quality of the song. Something I don't particularly like about the album, is the same "tune" to the songs. They're mostly the same tune, but different notes.

Even though it's not the most original thing you've ever heard, it still is worthy to stay in your CD player for a while. And even though I've just said it's not entirely original, I don't think you'll get bored of it after a while. It would take constant listening to in order to do so.

Recommended Tracks:
Take Me Away
Don't Tell Me
My Happy Ending
Forgotten
Who Knows
I Always Get What I Want

Despite the flaws, I still love the album. It's catchy, and enjoyable to listen to. I personally give this album a 3/5.

Thank God for nostalgia - it gives worth to Avril's early work....

Avril Lavigne's sophomore effort is not briliiant. To say the least, it was a tad bit disappointing ...

Nice review brycey. One of the few people who had the guts to make a review about something they actually like :thumb:

Anyway, I was looking through the booklet of her other cd the other day and I thought "As if a girl like that would be a skater"

No it really is her. Considering my knowledge of makeup from my thespian experiences, you can trust me that her face can be built up by makeup. Just look at the pic of Ashanti on that site. Lots of people completely changed based on eyebrows too. That's how they made Anne Hathaway look so ugly in The Princess Diaries.

Nice review brycey. I have deep respect for your guts on reviewing the record here. :thumb:

I saw 'Don't tell me' on MTV the other day, and it's not bad I must confess. But i don't think I'll pick this up, just not quite my style of music.

Why not? I've seen better looking girls than her skate, and not just a bit. Real hardcore skaters.

And, I too don't believe the girl on that website is her. :thumb:

Wow, no one's ever posted that before! Also, since all Brycey talked about was how hot she was, that link is totally relevant to this thread! Not to mention the only reason you can like someone's music is if they are good looking or not!

Please don't be a moron.

Yeah she really is a complete rotter without make-up. But really how many girls aren't

Brave review Brycey. It hasn't changed my views on her but at the end of the day that type of music as a whole doesn't appeal to me so, meh.

I must admit as a big death metal fan, I don't dislike Avril, she has made some catchy songs.

Haven't heard much of this album though.

^^ Ok, I beleive you, you are cool

Looking on that site, some girls are still beautiful without makeup, despite them being celebrities. Jennifer Garner still looks amazing.
