“El Mark” could possibly be the Glassjaw EP to end all Glassjaw EP’s. And that’s the truth. “El Mark” is a digital EP available only through iTunes, and contains B Sides and un-released tracks from Glassjaw’s LP “Worship And Tribute?” Although this EP only contains three tracks on it, it is some of the best Glassjaw tracks available.
The First song, the title track “El Mark,” is one of Glassjaw’s best songs of all time. A great melodic song, with some great lyrics, and is the kind of song that you must see live to get the full effect of. Especially combinding that great song with Glassjaw’s live energy would create a ripple in the time space continuum causing you ears to bleed (in a good way of course.) This is a great opening track although the other two tracks do not sound like this at all. The next track which is “The Number No Good Things Could Come Of,” is a piano/drum driven song with some great soft vocals provided by the great Daryl Palumbo. With his almost signature voice, and some outstanding lyrics make this THE closest thing to a Glassjaw ballad, if they ever had one. Unless you see this in a acoustic set it’s not a song to look forward to in a Glassjaw live show. The final track is “Oxycodone,” which is a very interesting track. Soft drums and a very fellow blues guitar come in, and the lyrics are very, very interesting. You will notice that most the lyrics rhyme. An example being, “And he’s the bees knees and if you sneeze please oversee this slight oversight for which he’ll fight, granted tonight’s the night and if you feel it well then all right.” The lyrics are very well written and is overall a very intriguing song that you can listen to over and over again. A top notch Glassjaw song.
Overall “El Mark,” is a very solid EP and if you have Apple/iTunes account I recommend going to the iTunes store and purchasing this right away, since it only costs about three dollars. It was the best three dollars I’ve spent in a long time.
