First off. The Sound Of Animals Fighting. Just the name, makes you wonder. Who are these people? The Sound Of Animals Fighting (TSOAF) is Rich Balling (The Nightingale), Matt Embree (The Walrus), Chris Tsagakis (The Lynx), Ryan Baker (The Hyena), Anthony Green (The Skunk), Craig Owens (The Ram), Keith Goodwin (The Penguin), and Matthew Kelly (The Llama). What type of music do they make? Are they worth spending $10-$15 when their new album is released? The answer to these questions are YES. Although the type of music TSOAF may not be accepted by every one. It is probably the most original, mind bending, haunting, exhilarated music I have ever heard in my life. TSOAF is a must listen, nay a must BUY.
“Lover, The Lord Has Left Us…” the newest release from TSOAF is pretty much the most disturbing (in a good way) album that was released in 2006. Consisting of members from bands such as RX Bandits, Circa Survive, The Autumns, and Chiodos, all members have a extreme amount of talent, and they do not hide it. WARNING: “Lover, The Lord Has Left Us…” (LTLHLU) is a experimental/industrial/progressive rock album. Although I do highly recommend this album, if you are looking for old TSOAF please see the progressive rock album Tiger & The Duke, which focuses on technical guitar parts and vocals. LTLHLU focuses more of creative freedom, and thinking outside of the box. If you think you’re only going to hear Anthony Green, and Rich Balling singing on these album. You’re way off. Not only have they added three new vocalists, but they have acapella, and Opera, and even sand skirt chanting. This is a very diverse album that will leave you wanting more.
This album was recorded in a very interesting way. During the recording process no one saw each other. The drummer would write a song, and their producer Rich Balling, would send the finished track to the guitarist, and so on and so forth. Both of TSAOF’s albums have been recorded this way. The album starts off with “Intro.” Normally I wouldn’t mention the intro’s but this one is surprisingly important. The reason why, is cause it is very chaotic. When the listener is used to hearing the technical guitar riffs of Tiger & The Duke, “Intro” will help them decide whether or not the like LTLHLU. For me I didn’t like it. Not one bit. Then after listening to the album a couple times, I fell in love. Then comes Un’aria. Both these track and the later track “Un’aria Ancora.” Both of these tracks are Craig Owens singing solo. No other instruments are being played. Only one amazing voice. In my opinion it show’s Craig’s true vocal talent.
Songs can be very different on this record. The song “My Horse Must Lose” starts off with Indian singing, then later a hip-hop beat comes with amazing vocals. There is even acoustic tracks of these album, and almost a pop-experimental song, almost like the Postal Service. Every track on these records is different from the previous track, but still have the same common element that makes this album follow so incredibly well.
Overall this album is a great buy because it show’s off the true capability of what a band can do. Although this album isn’t for everyone it is one amazing album and should be bought right away.

This looks really interesting, but Ive only heard RX Bandits out of the lline up.
| | | You spend too much introducing the band (twice!), and reiterate what the album is and sounds like too much without going into detail what that sound might be. You spend about two paragraphs just introducing and a minimal third paragraph describing the songs that go into it. Some grammar issues here and there with the usual comma/period/semi-colon issue.

Oxymoron. This is overrated, but it's still decent. This Message Edited On 03.04.07

| | | The Heretic is still a beautiful song.

Currently This Heat is my favorite, but they are all so amazing, it all depends on my mood.

You say all of those recommended tracks, but you didn't say much about them in the review at all. Also, it is "my horse must lose" not loose. Plus, you did not really tell me anything that the other reviews had not said already. This Message Edited On 03.04.07

What type of music do they make?
YES!
| | | ZING!
| | | the album is TOO weird for me. The only song i really really like is House in the sky. If they made more of that id be damn happy, instead they had to make all this trippy sh*t

Shift, its Horses in the Sky, and no, even that song didn't suit me. I can understand a different sound throughout albums.. but when I buy a CD, I usually am looking for one genre. The first four-song (well, album, but the other shit is filler) was really good.. lacked creativity, like the songs were imbedded into another, but it was a start. Instead the ranted off into this. The album doesn't lack substance, it just has too muchThis Message Edited On 03.04.07

Like I said, not every one will like it. It's just some people crave something so different, and i admit i'm one of them. that's the thing i love is that this album is so out there.

I DARE you to put this in a more awkward spot.
| | | Sand Skirt? I believe the ancient language is Sanskrit.
| | | I thought this cd was ok, though i hated the interludes or whatever they were, they are just time-consuming. Everytime they came on i just skipped it and in total you get like 5-6 listenable tracks. i think they tried to be too different and in the end the cd didn't do it itself justice. But i hear rumors of a third SOAF cd. hope its good, and they do something different and try not using anthony green again. This Message Edited On 08.13.07

Liberty Scene, are you thinking of Tiger & The Duke? Because there was no interludes on this album, and Craig Owens had more vocals parts than Anthony Green did.

Guitarplaya, you are wrong as far as the 'no interludes' part goes, unless you call "chiriacho summit" and "the golden boy..." and others, songs. This Message Edited On 10.12.07

By far one of the biggest dissapointments ever!
I say this because its just bad, tiger and the duke was genius. Then i listened to this and was totally turned off.

oh gross! this album is a huge disappointment. anything with craig owens tends to be... but the vocals are just SO terrible un'aria
I am sure craig owens is a cool guy, but it's just entirely unnecessary
