Review Summary: When a bands the same name a recently hit box office movie about a fashion designer what are you honestly supposed to think… yea I thought the same as you probably did… WTF... right? Well after one full listen I said screw the name…

The devil wears Prada are a Christian metalcore band out of Dayton Ohio. Their recent release of their debut album has made impact on many. The album is called dear love: a beautiful discord. Like I said before they are nu-metal, and I say this again because I know a lot of people don’t really appreciate it as much as others so if you read this and think to check it out don’t b discouraged by the nu-metal label because you really need to give this band a chance…

The devil wears prada really snagged me with their vocalist at first; Mike Hranica is his name and let’s talk a little bit about him. His normal scream is a lot like the guy from Haste the day but he can get a lot higher pitched than him and about as low as George Fischer I kid you not and that’s a main reason I like this band is his range also his voice is more developed and not as raspy as the haste the day dude either. Although he does not go as low as that all the time it is still nice that he brings a little death metal taste to the picture. He doesn’t sing so that is kind of bad but there isn’t a lot of singing anyway on this CD so it really doesn’t matter if he does or their guitarist does. I can also see his voice be displeasure to some and or most but like I said give it a chance, his voice does get kind of monotonous I will go out and say that.

The instrumental part of the album… well the guitars are solid; I mean there is a lot of catchy sweet riffs that I also another reason that this album came out to me when I first heard it. For example the songs, Dogs can grow beards all over, rosemary had an accident, Swords, Dragons and diet coke; are all prime examples of some sweet riffage but don’t get me wrong those are not the only stand out riffs there is more but that is for you to find out yourself. There is quite a few pinch harmonics throughout the album, there is a lot of sweet well put together power chord riffs if that makes any sense I don’t exactly know what to call them but yea… the bass isn’t audible at all so that’s a big negative, drums aren’t anything special either another negative, just kind of hardcore drums with not so much double bass, keyboardist… now he is a different story he has quite a few parts on the album about as much as like still remains or bleeding through, but yet with a taste of children of Bodom except not nearly as talented and there is no solo’s so never mind that statement, but the parts that eh has he makes up for the bass not being audible and the drums kind of sucking. His parts are not as much like just long note holding but more like a piano yea that’s it ok anyways…

Highlight songs: Dogs can grow beards all over, rosemary had an accident, Swords, dragons and diet coke, Texas is south, modeify the pronunciation.

Dogs can grow beards all over, starts out with a sweet riff that is maintained throughout the verse with some high vocals, then a break down and some death metal vocals, then so extremely high pitch vocals, and then some more of the same, there is some clean singing later in the song and some sweet keyboards in fact its pretty much techno. Probably my favorite song on the album.

Rosemary had an accident: starts right out with some vocals and some riffage and then some sweet guitars, the verse is with pretty generic screaming so I am not so fond of I but the keyboards hold the rhythm which is neat because you don’t see that too often. This song just kind of stood out o me so I guess I thought would talk about it a bit.

Besides the just sweet name; swords, dragons, and diet coke what is there to say about this song… well it starts out with some sweet riffs, and an ok verse at first but gets better with a breakdown for a verse and then there is quite of clean singing in this song. Also this song stood out to me.

Texas is south another sweet name but besides the fact this song is just sweet… it comes right out with some high pitch screaming but finishing his sentence in some low death metal screams, and then some singing over some screaming and some upbeat guitars and some sweet keyboards and guitars.

Overall this album was good for a debut; there is some room for improvement, for drums, vocals. They are a very good band for people who like haste the day or it kind of hurts to say this but Zao… although they are much better respectively.

Pros: Good guitar works, mostly good vocals, at least half of the songs were catchy, good lyrics, sweet song titles…

Cons: kind of monotonous, no audible bass, poor drumming…

Overall a 3.5 thanks for reading please let me know how I can improve my reviews because I really do like to write them but I can tell I suck at it so please give me some feedback and please let me know what you think about the band…

The keyboards are about the only interesting thing about this band, although they are quite boring...

I don't get what sets them apart from anyone else. I guess it's because they're "christian" which cancels out their unoriginality. They hit big with the myspace scene. All I remember is I added them and suddenly I was getting a hell of a lot of "event invitations." They're that band that adds you. Not anymore, though, since they've technically reached a sort of famous level.

this band is horirble. they try to be like the other (almost as bad) bands in the oh-so-horrible scene of today, and instead fall short. okay review, i guess it's not my place to critique but all of your song descriptions consisted of "sweet riffs" "high and low-pitched vocals" and "breakdowns" in various orders.

these guys are not numetal, and rise records (the label they are signed to) is not a nu-metal label. it's crap for the most part.

Hideous band.

In terms of youir technique it was fine its just hard to go along with it when i disagree with your opinion of this. There was too many short paragraphs at the end. Try to maintain length it looks better.

There were some interesting moments on the album, but mostly it was just rehashed riffs and bad song writing. The keyboards seemed to be there just for the sake of having them and didn't really add anything to the songs.

Shit, I know this band. Their "fans" put up flyers at my school awhile back ago, and I told myself "Wow, these guys probably suck". Looks like they do, as well as most of the other local bands that come out of my area...This Message Edited On 01.02.07

So is your English.

To all those complaining about them being nu-metal, they pretty much are generic enough to be called nu-metal.

What, they are not nu-metal, where the heck did that come from? They are Christian Metalcore, I was quite impressed by the vocals(deeper vocals), and the keyboards, everything else was pretty good.
