ALEXISONFIRE IS NOT OVERRATED
This is quite an interesting band and album, as many may hate it, but lots will love it. For me, I was kind of in between. At first, I heard the single “No Transitory”. I loved the song, but after I heard some more of Alexisonfire, I started to dislike the band. I found Dallas’s voice was extremely annoying, and it also seems to bring down the album quite a bit, in songs like “Control”, where the guitars are some of the best, and catchiest on the album. Dallas isn’t horrible, but he just gets dragged on for too long, which makes you sick of him. “No Transitory” holds some of the best vocals that Dallas does on the album, they aren't not half as annoying, but they are also fun to listen to. Later in time, I listened to some of they’re other tracks off of this album, and found that Alexisonfire isn’t as terrible as I thought. Songs that brought me back to this band were some of their heavier ones, like “That Girl Possessed” (probably my favorite from this album).
As far as guitars go on this album, they are fine, nothing spectacular, but I didn’t expect much. Now I’m not saying that they are bad, becuase they are not at all. The guitars just don’t really stand out. If you want to hear tracks where the guitar stands out, then I recommend “Control”, and “Accidents”. I find that this album focuses more on vocals more, specifically Dallas, than it does guitars, which is quite a downside to the album.
For the drums, I must say that I am more impressed about them than I am with the guitars. The drums seem to hold their ground for every song, not really being any better or worse in any specific song. I admit that the drums are probably one of the better parts of Alexisonfire. No songs really stand out as far as drums go though. They are all quite good.
Vocal wise, this album is alright. George pulls off some great screams, but Dallas just seems to drag it down. Good thing that there are songs like “That Girl Possessed”. If it weren’t for songs like that, this album wouldn’t be half as good. Although, Dallas isn’t a bad vocalist, I just personally don’t like his vocal syle all the time. George is one of the best parts on the album, although at points his scream can seem kind of weird, and different. Not that that’s a bad thing whatsoever. Summed up, the vocals on this album are about a 5.5/10. (Sorry Alexisonfire fans, but blame Dallas)
Really, I find that Alexisonfire is a little overrated, especially on this album. But I guess my opinion comes in to play a little much here. But if you think about it, nothing about the band is spectacular, which is why this album isn’t as good as it’s put out to be. Alexisonfire, with out a doubt, has potential, they just haven’t hit it off with this album. I guess I've been a little hard on this album, but its becuase its easy to pick out the negatives on this album. Alexisonfire have shown what they can do (to an extent), which I give them credit for. For example, they can be soft, and heavy, sometimes in the same song, which I applaud them for. Well anyways, when it comes to Post-Hardcore I find that you’re better with bands like Underoath IMO. For those who like the softer side of Post-Hardcore, you will enjoy this album greatly. Looking forward to Crisis, as the vocals have dramatically improved (from what I've heard)
