 | Framing Hanley The Moment With strong vocals and rather calm musicianship, Framing Hanley have put forth an album that doesn't take any risks, but relies in its comfortable niche. The guitars are consistent throughout the album, sporting catchy riffs but never venturing too far into the unknown. The drums support and push forward the sound as expected. All of the instrumentals seem to be there simply to propel the vocals into the spotlight, which is certainly a good thing, as they are the best aspect of this album. | 3.5 05.25.12 | | Evans Blue The Melody and the Energetic Nature of Volume With a dark and tranquil atmosphere conveyed by the instrumentals, Evans Blue have crafted an album that would be a complete success, if it weren't for the shaky vocals and the rather generic song structures and lyricism. While the vocals occasionally fit well with the instrumentation, it tends to get too distracting and takes away from the experience as a whole. | 3 05.25.12 | | Halestorm The Strange Case Of... Improving in almost all aspects, Halestorm add the substance to their sound that was lacking in their first release, not only boosting the technicality of their instruments, but adding in multiple new trinkets to their sound, such as occasional electronic input. The guitar and drums continue to push forward the vocals and occasionally take off on their own to boost the experience of each song. | 4 05.25.12 | | Mayday Parade Anywhere But Here Lacking the power that was present on their debut, Mayday Parade struggle to find their sound with the recent departure of Jason Lancaster, and have enlisted the help of multiple songwriters to help boost the quality of their sound. While this was successful in some aspects, and the catchy hooks and Danny's vocals still rain supreme, the arrangements weren't in their complete creative control, and thus the album lacks in quality. | 3 05.25.12 | | Heaven Shall Burn Iconoclast (Part I:The Final Resistance) Juxtaposing pure rage with melodic piano, death metal influence and tying it all together with speedy and varied instrumentals, Heaven Shall Burn have created a concept album that shatters many genre barriers and shows the band can deftly leap through multiple sound experiments and pull off their work with ease. | 5 05.25.12 | | Architects The Here and Now Winding down for a more calm and melodic approach from their previous effort, Architects have created a somewhat underwhelming effort compared to their previous album, however this isn't much of an issue, as with strong songwriting, powerful lyricism and strong instrumentation, Architects have still put forth a worthwhile album that keeps up and above the standards of the genre, but not up to their personal level. | 3.5 05.23.12 | | Atticus Ross The Book Of Eli OST Effortlessly conveying the post-apocalyptic environment as easily as the sprawling scenes in the movie, Atticus Ross has matched the sheer majesty and mystery of the world in the music by using a multitude of strings and other arrangements to paint a vivid picture in the eye of the listener and to help compliment the experience. | 4.5 05.23.12 |
