Tool Lateralus
Here it is, my favorite album. It has been literally life-changing for me, and after more than 5 years of continued listening, has not become even the least bit stale. It is Tool at their best, and that alone is saying a lot. It is a masterstroke of both technicality and songwriting. Tool jump through musical hoops on virtually every track, leaving you scratching your head wondering what the hell it was that you just listened to. Abundant time changes, ridiculous drum fills, infectious bass hooks, and sounds you never knew could be made by a guitar, and that's not even including the brilliant lyrical work. Janus Nox Aeris
After the excellent Red Right Return, I predicted Janus to deliver something truly special on their following album. I wasn't wrong. Nox Aeris is certainly something special. There's no jumping through musical hoops here, but the songwriting and execution are both exceptional. Atmosphere is the crowing achievement of Nox Aeris. As the title suggests, it's like a black fog seeping between every note, between every dense, testosterone-fueled guitar line, between every crooning word and piercing howl. The music is now without hope, though. Through lyric and melody, Janus manage to keep you from getting sucked into the inky darkness completely. "
Converge Jane Doe
Oh boy...THIS album. I hated this, loathed it even. I didn't understand what all the hype was about. The vocals were the worst I'd ever heard, and the rest was just dirty noise. I glad I decided to stick it out and see what all the fuss was about.rTrue art is memorable. True art triggers a reaction in all of those who experience it (be it positive or negative). True art inspires its contemporaries. Jane Doe does all of those things and then some. rIt is a technical marvel. The instrumentation is as ferocious as it is varied, Bannon's inhuman screeching is like something from Hell. The production is perfect; it remains dirty and aggressive wit
Karnivool Sound Awake
I can't decide what I want to give this, so it's a 4.5 for now.
