Louisiana blues artist Brother Dege has passed away. A cause of death has not yet been given but it can be presumed to be unexpected considering his planned release of an album this week.
Dege Legg was known for his song Too Old To Die Young which featured in the Django Unchained soundtrack, as well as his bands Santeria and Black Bayou Construkt. He also released a book in 2020 called "Cablog: Diary of a Cabdriver," which chronicled his five years of driving a cab in Lafayette. The memoir recounts his cab encounters, including the grieving parents of a serial-killer victim, a gang of ex-Holiness Apostolic Pentecostals, James Taylor’s band, and a parade of characters.
A statement from label Prophecy Productions on their Facebook page:
"Brother" Dege Legg passed away on Friday, March 8.
Our thoughts and condolences for this tragic loss go out to his family, his band The Brethren, and friends.
