| Overlooked, Underrated, and Underappreciated Alt
Mostly 90's alt, but there's a ton of commercially ignored music that's borderline classic. Here is my compilation of them. | 1 | | Eels Beautiful Freak
The obvious choice would be electroshock blues for this band, but this album has My Beloved Monster, and all of the songs have just been hitting home really hard lately. | 2 | | Sparklehorse Good Morning Spider
The obvious choice but holy shit this album is perfect alternative pop. Creative and varied yet consistent, with excellent production and top tier songwriting. one of the hardest 5s ever tbh. | 3 | | Ben Folds Five Whatever and Ever, Amen
This was awesome. Ben is hilarious and his lyrics are spot on. | 4 | | Pavement Slanted and Enchanted
I was surprised by how much I really enjoyed this album, its lack of perfection just really speaks to me right now. | 5 | | Harvey Danger Where Have All The Merrymakers Gone?
Banger after banger after banger. Great album. | 6 | | Fiona Apple Tidal
This album is also one of the hardest 5s ever, with incredible vocals from piano playing that's takes you away on an ocean of clouds. Dreamy, emotional pop at it's finest. | 7 | | XTC Skylarking
I just really like the beach boys worship on this tbh. | 8 | | Violent Femmes Violent Femmes
Front Bottoms aint got shit on these guys tbh. | 9 | | The Rentals Return of the Rentals
This is great. Low key cars meets weezer, and it works excellently. | 10 | | Oingo Boingo Dead Man's Party
I kinda stick these guys in line with talking heads with how creative and off the wall they are, but no one ever talks about them. They're super catchy so what the hell guys? | 11 | | The Thermals The Body, The Blood, The Machine
Really solid indie/punk, I put this album side by side with the Harvey danger album, solid, fun, and really great car music. | 12 | | No Doubt Tragic Kingdom
Obvious choice, but this album is just so darn fun, and I feel like this has become like a nostalgia album rather than a serious jam y'know? | 13 | | The Microphones The Glow Pt. 2
I've listened to nothing else by this guy, but this album is just...wow. that's all I can say. every listen I hear something new, and am emotionally destroyed a whole 'nother way, having to put myself back together again once it's over. | 14 | | The Basics Keep Your Friends Close
Practically unknown in the states, this band needs more exposure. Gotye is the drummer, and he's not even the best songwriter in the band! | |

04.10.18 | Cool list. I'm giving sparklehorse a try right now.
If we're talking underrated 90's rock, I'd throw Hum's You'd Prefer an Astronaut up there. | bgillesp
04.10.18 | 3,6,8,12,13 aren't really overlooked or underrated. People praise those quite a bit. | CugnoBrasso
04.10.18 | Yeah The Glow Pt 2 in particular. That album is so appreciated that it could start a cult. | chemicalmarriage
